Anna's nice comfortable world is in turmoil. Because of their success in destroying the foreign Raiders, Anna, Kris, and Adrian were promoted to full commander, and the project team was disbanded. Kris and Adrian were given NIA offices to manage on Stone Ring and Westar, and Anna is being pressured to move to Eastar to manage the NIA station. That would mean she would have to move away from home and Alexa, whom Anna considers her refuge. In addition, she would be exposed to new people whose reactions to her are always unpredictable because of Anna's red-headed krait and her young age. Worst of all, she would be responsible for managing an NIA office when she has no management experience. And being the youngest commander in the Navy will inevitably cause resentment.

While trying to adjust to her new challenges, Anna discovers two potential perils that threaten the security of the United Alliance of Stars empire. Separately, they are each as dangerous as the Raiders were. Together, they not only threaten the fabric of the empire, but they are exponentially more dangerous to Anna - the bloodhound who discovered the threats and is doggedly pursuing them. If she is to survive, she will require help from her Red Angel.

Again a well thought out story line with a great narrator. Anna does become a bit whiny, but remains a believable heroine. Chapter 8 was well worked, and was in line with the plot. I have read way worse with more detail. This was done tastefully. Will keep on reading.

Storyline with a twist

Interesting story of puzzles, murders, hijackers, space battles and lots of battles to find and arrest murderers...

Great book!

Series is very interesting with fun characters but story lines pretty similar throughout the series in an almost tv episode procedural way. Still really enjoyable listen that keeps your interest

And agree with other review that series takes a turn here from pg to r. Suddenly some cursing including F words (not many though) and *** Spoiler*** main character is kidnapped and suffers gang rape and torture. It’s written well and not done in detail but still could be a trigger for some. And does go on to focus on growth and healing after abuse

Good space opera procedural

I have now listened to all four books in the series. The first two I would consider sci/fi PG. The second two go straight to R, both in language and subject matter. The subject of sexual violence is done very straightforwardly, bad guys are ended and the healing can begin. As other reviewers have said the plot is basically the same in all four books but in the second two the author has done research on the emotional toll of abuse. The writing is good and compelling if not great. The narration is better than average although sometimes it’s hard to tell who is supposed to be talking.

Be warned
