Publisher's summary

The world is barely holding on. A century after a series of apocalyptic events, humanity is struggling to survive. In the frigid north of Scandinavia, people have returned to farming, fishing, and fighting amongst themselves, living as their ancient Viking ancestors once did. But their days in the world are numbered. The last tattered remnants of humankind have become barren. No new live births have occurred in over a decade. When the remaining population dies, the human race will end.

When a call goes out to the greatest fighters in the North, men capable of surviving a long journey and crushing any obstacle in their path, a young female berserker named Val takes up the challenge. With her eyes hidden behind red-lens goggles, she violently proves her worth, seizes control of a small band of fellow berserkers, and heads south to claim her prize: the first glimmer of hope for a tomorrow.

Traveling deep into the wastes of Europe, surrounded by dangerous landscapes and the mutated creatures that populate them, they find themselves pursued by enemies determined to stop them at all costs. Attacked from without and betrayed from within, Val fights for the future, and if she fails, humanity fails along with her.

Jeremy Robinson and Kane Gilmour imagine a world that has survived multiple apocalyptic events, mixing the savagery of the History Channel's Vikings with the frenetic chase scenes of Mad Max, resulting in a high-octane battle raging across Europe with the fate of humanity at stake.

Vikings!!!

In a ravaged world, in the wilds of Scandinavia, their is a civilisation that has survived..... barely. They are barren, with no live births in over a decade. A scientist has put a call out for the greatest warriors because there is hope for humanity, but it's in Italy, and with no way to get there quickly or safely, it's an important but extremely dangerous mission.

Val is determined to lead the mission, and with proving her worth in a battle, she is tasked with bringing the genetic material back from Italy. Along with a small group of Vikings, Val sets out with some provisions and the few quads they have managed to keep running. But the world is totally different than what they are used to and the group have to contend with mutated animals and groups of gangs. Can they make it or will this be the death of them?

I devoured this book!! It was absolutely brilliant!! Comparing it to "the savagery of the History Channel’s Vikings with the frenetic chase scenes of Mad Max" sums this up perfectly. I adored the Viking group, especially Val and Ulrick. Val was such a kick ass character and her second in command Ulrick was the same. Ulrick respects Val in a way none of the others do. He backs up her decisions and Val comes to rely on him too.

Right from the start, we are brought into the action and taken on an unforgettable journey. The world these authors have created was brutal, deadly and oh so good!! The team have to learn new things as they go, have to learn to work together and most importantly, learn to trust each other, and I loved seeing that play out. Things don't always work smoothly, but I loved how Val does her best for all her men.

In all, this was an action packed, adventurous and extremely fun book to read. I've always loved reading about the Vikings, and when you add in a creature feature, I knew I'd love this, and love it I did!! Filled with amazing characters, danger at every turn, deception and plenty of action, this is a must read for everyone!!! I really hope we get to see Val and Ulrick again soon.

What can I about Jeffrey Kaffers performance that I haven't said before?? Every book he reads, he brings his "A" game. He read this well and his accents were actually pretty good. I say that because he had to do quite a few different ones here and they were great. He is so easy to listen to and nails the performance.

I was given this free audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Dissapointing

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone who likes listening to hand to hand combat with graphic display

Has Viking Tomorrow turned you off from other books in this genre?

No - I like this genre, but I like reading books that have a plan, other than describing new monsters and how to kill them

What about Jeffrey Kafer’s performance did you like?

Steady

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Viking Tomorrow?

WAY too much time spent in fights, without a strategy for the end game

Any additional comments?

I know Jeremy Robinson has many fans. I read a number of his previous books, but stopped listening to them or reading them because I found there was little "plot" and they were mostly descriptions of battles with various creatures. I was hoping this one would be different since it has a co-author, but it wasn't.

Go Vikings!!

This is the first I’ve listened to a book by these authors. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would happily listen to another book by them.

The book synopsis basically says it all- Val, a female berserker, leads a group of eight fellow berserkers on a journey to collect something vital to the human race. Without it, it is believed humans will die out. The journey is perilous. They must cross Europe, navigate the unknown lands and local populations to reach their destination and collect what they’ve been entrusted to. Then, they have to manage to return home, a journey that could take years in this post-apocalyptic age. The book ends with an obvious lead up to the next book. I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

There is one character that says a swear word a few times but that’s the extent I recall. There are no explicit sex scenes. As for violence, there are fight scenes and some passages that the squeamish reader would likely want to gloss over, however, the description is not excessive.

I’ve listened to another book (Villain’s Rule) that Jeffrey Kafer narrated. I enjoyed his narration for that book as much as I did this one. He has distinguishable voices for each character and does the female voices and accents well. I’d love to listen to another book narrated by him.

Pacing Problems

The story rushes itself from fight to fight at a dizzying speed. But, each fight is written with far too complexity of detail, breaking down individual character movements all the way to what muscles flex in order to make every movement. Though it is a lot of detail, it actually becomes hard to follow due to how long each quick movement takes to read. This occurs in every fight scene for long stretches of time. By fight number twenty, I just wanted the author to get on with it.

Your sense of time will be strained listening to this as the authors glaze over long stretches of time without fights when something interesting could possibly be built and spend so much time on each fight.

Very few characters are believable. They too often take on superhero qualities in a casual manner. Right off the bat, a five year old holds her breath in freezing waters for over five minutes as if that is a normal thing that could happen. This and many other casual feats of superhuman physicality left me with the impression that the authors actually tried to base this story in reality, but missed terribly. I was never convinced to suspend my disbelief, something I normally do quite easily and willingly.

All in all, this story needed another couple years of incubation.

Who doesn't like a dystopian Viking Story?

I was going on a solo road trip related to my job and wanted an Audio Book that kept me awake during the long drive. Viking Tomorrow made a very long drive seem like a trip to the store. It hooked me in to this crazy dystopian world to such a degree that I ate in my car in order to keep listening to the story. I can't wait to for the next book to come out!

Interesting but limited

Viking Tomorrow is what I would call a fast read, casual quest story. Although the initial concept of devolving do the days of Vikings after the apocalypse was an interesting one, we see very little of that life, except for the fighting. The quest itself was basically a chain of fights, again, with little coverage of life amongst the ruins, other than the fights. "The Road" this is not. If you fancy berserker style fighting of monsters and mobsters, then this book is for you, but honestly, that will be all you get here.

Painfull

It’s a dull, unimaginative story with uninteresting characters. Generic tough guy, sad guy, bad buy. One super human powerful heroin who can slaughter anything but still needs help from generic tough guy love interest. Just the premise is stupid. World population is dead and only way to save it is a cross Europe trip on 4 wheelers to pick up a green eyed kid who’s genes will make women fertile. Ohh the super human warrior woman she happens to have green eyes but know one knows because she wears goggles.🤯
