When Ellie Chapman inherits a dilapidated farm, perched high up on the cliffs above the English Channel, it's not long before she decides to launch a wedding business. After all, with a mum whose cake baking skills rival Mary Berry's, and the perfect venue, it seems the natural choice. She might be a total novice when it comes to the first wedding, but with a bride who leaves everything until the last minute, a vengeful ex-fiancé of her own, and the world's naughtiest donkey... I have been reading a lot of fantasy and mystery. Sometimes, those genres can get overwhelming and you want a story that is plain and simple and doesn't require too many mental gymnastics. This was absolutely perfect for me. Not a lot of back and forth, not a lot of unnecessary drama, not a lot of drawing out of the story line. Things progressed naturally, or at least in the realm of story telling it was natural. The characters were simple. The plot was fairly predictable but still enjoyable. Nothing about this story is complicated and I love it for that. After reading ACOTAR, Fourth Wing, and The House Maid, this book was a very welcome breath of "no one is trying to kill me, no one is trying to sabotage me, no one is trustworthy" air 🤣🤣🤣

I do want to be sure its clear that the book does have a bit of drama in it. Its not completely flat. Just enough to pique the interest without making the heart race.

Simple, clean story

This was my first listen to a Jo Bartlett book and I am happy to have found this author. She writes beautifully and her dialogues are first class.
My only regret in this first book in the series is that the vilain, Rupert, did not have more involvement. I believe it would have added a lot more drama and uncertainty to what was an easily-guessed ending.
Now I am off to read the second in the series, so happy to have discovered it.

Good but would have been better with more about Rupert

The interesting storyline and no vulgar language or sex. I’ve never read this author before, but I would like to read more of her work.

Beautiful descriptions of people and setting.

A perfect little break from the fallen world we live in. Nice story line and great conclusion. I liked the book a lot.

This was such a cozy romance. Sentimental and cute and fun. Predictable plot with a feel-good happily after ever. Exactly what I wanted from this genre. I enjoyed that it had enough backstory to make me feel empathy for the characters - it wasn't just fluff. My eyes were even misty a few times. Donkeys, sheep, wedding cakes, wild flowers, double love story. It's so heartwarming! Sometimes I thought it could have been a bit longer to develop the characters and issues more, but I really loved the way it all came full circle. It was the perfect listen for a day of chores. Definitely lifted my spirits, and I'll likely seek out the sequel.

What a cozy, happy listen
