The riveting tale begun in William Wilde and the Necrosed continues as William finds himself beset on all sides by cruel foes and even crueler friends.

Having survived the monster, Kohl Obsidian, Wiliam Wilde had hoped his life would settle down - that he'd finish his senior year of high school with no further adventures.

But life isn't so simple for a potential magus, especially one who's overcome as deadly an enemy as Kohl. Instead, William has unwittingly earned the raptor gaze of even greater foes. One is someone he thought he could implicitly trust while others are even more dangerous. And all are from the island of Sinskrill. They are mahavans, powerful magic users bent on humanity's enslavement. They seek to capture William and chain him to their needs, to bind him in perpetual servitude upon Sinskrill.

William finds himself caught among people for whom deceit and pain are simple coins to be traded, and his best hope to survive these new challenges might lie with someone he'd always thought to be his mortal enemy.

I enjoyed this book. The bad guy was not as scary, but it shed light on books I've listened to a few years ago with Serena and Chet. The only issue is that the plan fell into place too easy. I think Serena sister will betray based on her snooping on William, Jake, and Serena. The 3rd book is called Unusual Suspects, so I think it's possible. Anywho, Nick's performance was solid, and for some reason, I love how Nick says the word drop. A solid 5 out of 5.

It's on par with book 1

Sometimes that is for better, sometimes it's for worse. Family and friends can be foes. Who knows? Enemies can certainly friends. Who can tell? when magic mixes with history and future events, nothing is as it seems. The horrible may be helpful and the good may be good luck. Or not. Kidnapping puts an end to the kids and new friends tries trust to the limits. Secrets change reality and escape is a risky impossibility. One if by land, two if by sea. But when there are four, it's more for me!

Life events are mostly controlled by others.

The plot line for this book was a little darker than the first but it gives a glimpse into how good I hope this series will become. While the first book felt like it bordered on YA fantasy, this second addition to the series loses the high school angst in favor of an overall more mature theme. The character building and depth is excellent. I like that Davis Ashura is taking his time with the characters and not sacrificing depth for an easy feel good moment.

As always Nick Podehl rocks!

A dark turn and a good second step for the series.
