*The spectacular sequel to Audie Award Audiobook of the Year Children of Blood and Bone*

A GOOD MORNING AMERICA BOOK CLUB PICK

"
Bahni Turpin exquisitely narrates the second book in this fantasy series, Legacy of Orïsha. Her steady pace and West African accent draw us into the story of Zélie, a Maji warrior, and Princess Amari--both of whom fight against a monarchy that threatens to destroy the people of Orïsha...A riveting audiobook!" — AudioFile Magazine, Earphones Award winner

After battling the impossible, Zélie and Amari have finally succeeded in bringing magic back to the land of Orïsha. But the ritual was more powerful than they could’ve imagined, reigniting the powers of not only the maji, but of nobles with magic ancestry, too.

Now, Zélie struggles to unite the maji in an Orïsha where the enemy is just as powerful as they are. But when the monarchy and military unite to keep control of Orïsha, Zélie must fight to secure Amari's right to the throne and protect the new maji from the monarchy's wrath.

With civil war looming on the horizon, Zélie finds herself at a breaking point: she must discover a way to bring the kingdom together or watch as Orïsha tears itself apart.

Children of Virtue and Vengeance is the stunning sequel to Tomi Adeyemi's New York Times-bestselling debut Children of Blood and Bone, the first audiobook in the Legacy of Orïsha trilogy.

While I really loved the first book, I felt the second book fell a bit flat and was dragging at times. Still a good listen though and the cliffhanger insinuates that there will be at least a third book. The narrator is probably my favorite narrator so far, very genuine and powerful performance.

Phenomenal narrator

Narrators voice was awful. If was a hard listen due to her “forced” accent. Great read though

Narrators voice was annoying

I see that others didn't like the melodramatic storyline of book 2, but I found it to follow the first book incredibly well and stayed true to the characters' natures and histories. Keep in mind that this is a book for young adults and the main characters are in their late teens/early 20s. There are certainly times when a character acts out of impulse or emotion and it's infuriating, but also understandable considering their age and the trauma they've all endured. I found their choices to be incredibly human and relatable-- nobody makes all of the right decisions all of the time. Overall, I found this to be a fantastic follow-up to Children of Blood and Bone and I can't wait for the 3rd book. Bahni Turpin's narration is incredible and she does such a wonderful job distinguishing between the different characters and their origins. A++++ all around.

Great book, wonderful narration.

I loved the first book in this series and this second book was equally as enthralling. There are times I wanted to strangle the characters and times I wanted to weep along with them. The narrative performance was amazing and skillfully crafted keeping you enraptured in every moment. I highly recommend this series to everyone that loves a good story.
