A would-be politician is found battered to death in the kitchen of his expensive home in a lovely Oxfordshire village. His wife's alibi is full of holes, and there's another woman in the background. And what about his seemingly mild-mannered political rival?

DI Hillary Greene tries to get to the bottom of this perplexing murder. She certainly doesn't think the prime suspect is as guilty as everyone thinks. Just as she's about to make a breakthrough, everything is turned upside down by a fatal development in another case she is working on....

Can Hillary find the murderer, and will she survive a brush with one of Oxford's most dangerous criminals?

I just like all these characters, most especially DI Green. So cool that she's smart, good looking, and not a youngster any more. These books are a great listen and a nice change from more serious, or noir, mystery series. Narrator is the

I'm working on catching up with the earlier books because I've come to appreciate the way DI Greene's mind works (not in any order, just what I can find at the moment).
The background spirals around the money her late unlamented almost ex-husband hid away and a side investigation (for her own curiosity) into her new superior. The murder cases spiral around the bludgeoning death of a local political candidate and a sting operation that result in the death of a drugs kingpin but leaves some uncomfortable questions. A riveting read!
Gemma Dawson is the voice actor who really brings even more credibility to the story.

Engrossing!

I love the Hilary Greene character from these stories. She's tough without being 'hard & cod hearted'. Great story and wonderful character development!

including interesting moral challenges for the main character. this review requires 15 words, or the author does not get the benefit of my positive feedback, so let me repeat that I enjoyed the story, and it seemed more realistic and less stereotype than many mysteries.
