A malevolent threat looms over the once great city of Excelsis. For as long as the treacherous Ortam Vermyre lives, civilisation is no longer safe within the Realm of Beasts.

Witch Hunter Hanniver Toll must brave the deadly seas and jungles of the Taloncoast to stop Vermyre before he can reach the legendary lost city of Xoantica. For within this forgotten ruin lies an artefact of darkest sorcery that possesses the power to reshape reality itself: the Silver Shard. Can Toll and his companion, a former Freeguild soldier known as Armand Callis, capture their nemesis in time? Or will Vermyre evade the Order of Azyr’s justice and tear the Mortal Realms asunder?

Really great as an adventure and told very well. Lots of lore, lots of fun.

Quite a happy find for Warhammer Fantasy

this sequel is so good, I honestly prefer it over the original. The first book was told only from toll's point of view, while this one hops from character to character. most warhammer literature struggles to create meaningful or impactful climaxes, but the golden lord's defeat is definitely an exception. (Why do the khorn worshipping aztecs have Russian accents?)

A criminally underrated addition to the black library

I was pleasantly surprised by this title in the relatively new Age of Sigma setting. Most of the series so far have been action-centric and somewhat plot thin, but this book is nothing less than a thrilling joyride through fantastic settings and vibrant characters. It also helps that you don't need to know too much about the AoS background, making this book a must have for any fan of swashbuckling fantasy.

Excellent Fantasy Adventure

The idea behind the book was good, the setting was used in a great way, the writing was ok, characters ware fun, but it was heavily padded with unnecessary action pieces that felt contrived and out of place.

Recommended to anyone who cares to explore the Mortal Realms, and won't mind the padding.

Too much unnecessary "action"
