The third volume in this powerful epic fantasy in the tradition of Robin Hobb and Peter Brett.

Ruling with an iron hand, the church has eliminated the ancient pagan ways. Yet demonic gheists terrorize the land, hunted by the Inquisition, while age-old hatreds rage between the North and the South. Three heroes - Malcolm and Ian Blakeley and Gwendolyn Adair - must end the bloodshed before chaos is unleashed.

Although I am still enjoying the continued story of Tim Akers very fantastic world of old mad gods and the confusion of mortals attempting to understand the aforementioned, the change of the wonderful previous Narrator very much broke my immersion into the voice cast he built for our characters. The new narrator isn't terrible, but he lends no diversity to his voice and I find myself speaking over his dialogue to correct inflection where he otherwise seems to rush through the lines. I rushed to purchase this at the end of Book 2, stoked to keep listening. If I had noticed and sampled the new Narrator though, I feel I might have just gone and purchased the physical book to read instead. Would've just preferred the original Narrator for continuity.

This book fell apart. It started off good, fell to okay in the middle, and then went to heck at the end. The first 2 were really good and set a lot of interesting things in motion. This installment pays off those story threads terribly and is unsatisfying.

Disappointing
