Old gunfighters never die, they just fade away.

A girl in pursuit of purpose, a boy hell-bent on revenge, and an old bounty hunter taking his last ride will team up to collect a bounty after a woman is murdered in a small Montana town. Their only obstacle, besides the long 500-mile trek, is that the murderer isn't just anyone, he's the son of a powerful land baron who controls the town. What promised at first to be an easy job will turn into a brutal fight, with the cost being their lives if they fail.

This is a good western but it took too long to get to the good part. I understand that the stories had to get together but I was bored by the time they did. The many parts fit together in the end. I just wish that perhaps some of the good parts could have been interspersed as afterthoughts or told as tales during the journey. I still enjoyed the book. I got this ARC via audiobook boom and this is my voluntary review.

Last Ride is a good western for a change of pace and cleanses the palette. Colton Emory who, returning home one day, found his wife Martha brutally beaten, stabbed, and her throat cut. Who or why was a complete mystery to Colton. In desperation Colton posts a rather large bounty for the capture of the guilty party(s) dead or alive. This brings in bounty hunters from all over. The bigger issue is that the culprit happens to be the son of a big rancher and land owner who pretty much also owns the town. As the bounty hunters roll in they are identified by the rancher’s hands and sent packing. On the other side of town a father and mother are gunned down in front of the daughter who manages to escape. The daughter flees to a friend of her father who used to be a bounty hunter. Ex-bounty hunter is also in need of money to save his farm. See where this is going? This is a good story of revenge and survival. The characters are well-developed and the action is pretty good once all parties get together. This is one of the best westerns I have listened to. It involves shootings and Bounty hunting. There is a lot of adventure and plenty of suspense. A well worth listen. This is my first time listening to kevin peirce as a narriater. He is good I wished he did a lot more westerns.

Last Ride, is a great western in the classic tradition - Good guys bad guys and many in between. Fast paced & full of action. It is an easy read. Perfect for a late evening read.
I am a big fan of the narrator Kevin Pierce - and find his style very easy, he is a great story teller and portrays the characters & action fully.
