Publisher's summary

From Graham Brown, co-author of the New York Times best-selling thriller Devil's Gate with Clive Cussler, comes Black Rain....

Covert government operative Danielle Laidlaw leads an expedition into the deepest reaches of the Amazon in search of a legendary Mayan city. Assisted by a renowned university professor and protected by a mercenary named Hawker, her team journeys into the tangled rain forest - unaware that they are replacements for a group that vanished weeks before, and that the treasure they are seeking is no mere artifact but a breakthrough discovery that could transform the world.

Shadowed by a ruthless billionaire, threatened by a violent indigenous tribe, and stalked by an unseen enemy that leaves battered corpses in its wake, the group desperately seeks the connection between the deadly reality of the Mayan legend, the nomadic tribe that haunts them, and the chilling secret buried beneath the ancient ruins.

My disappointment regarding Black Rain.

I liked the story very much and I gave it a 4star overall, however a good author doesn’t need to resort to using filthy language. We can deal with a bad word occasionally, but foul isn’t needed or necessary for a good author. Mr Graham teams up with Clive Cussler and of the 70 plus books I have listened to of his novels, none use filthy language. Follow the example of a master.

Drones & not as in the fun to fly ones

The story wasn’t bad, there were some errors in it as far as the responses of militarily and spook and wet work people. There is a fitting level of action and violence. Some responses of acted just like they should and in other areas acted school yard. There was a bit of disconnect. The premise was fresh. Unfortunately, Jeffrey Kafer just drones on. I have had professors that were livelier. I don’t know how else to describe the reading. There’s very little difference between his characters there’s almost no tonal inflection or emphasizing. He has a very mellifluous voice but IMHO, he shouldn’t be reading action books.

Whoa take a breath narrator

This book sounded pretty interesting however the narrator must have been drinking a lot of coffee when he recorded this! I actually turned down the speed of the narrator. That helped but I couldn’t even follow the story line until the last 2 hours when it got pretty good. I did make it to the end however there were times I didn’t think I’d make it! Interesting story premise with the use of Mayan legends and lore however, no need for swear words! They do not add one good thing to the story!

Enjoyed this.

Good action and character development. None of the characters were over-the-top superhuman.
Looking forward to listening to more of these.

Action Packed

This story was reminiscent of Michael Crichton. My only complaint is that it kept me awake listening for most of the night.

Well Done

There are very few books that I can't wait to get back too. This was one. I loved the characters and the surprising story line. Well done. He will become one of my favorite authors. The narrating was superb. Really made the book pop.

Lots of fun!

great pace, great variety of characters, interesting storyline that keeps you engaged. I also like that it is totally clean doesn't have garbage in it. maybe a little gory at times, but I guess that doesn't bother me as much? 🤷‍♂️

I X-File you not!

I don't want to give anything away. This was a fun ride with several movie scene worthy moments.

If you enjoy investigative mysteries, jungle expeditions, and a few sciences mixed in, you should give this book a listen.

Amazon sci-fi adventure

Great fun. Two of my favorite storylines. Imaginative. Engrossing, couldn’t stop listening, to the chagrin of all those around me.
