Das Hörspiel beruht auf einem Theaterstück in sieben Teilen, das von Ödön von Horváth (1901-1938) geschrieben und 1937 uraufgeführt wurde. Handlung: Der Bahnhofsvorsteher Hudetz küsst ein Mädchen anstatt das Signal zu stellen. Es kommt zu einem Zusammenstoß von einem Eilzug und einem Güterzug. Hierbei sterben 18 Fahrgäste.
