Publisher's summary

“Whatever you thought you believed about this infamous case, get ready to change your mind or be more convinced than ever.... Fascinating.” (New York Times best-selling author Steve Jackson)

In 2016-17, while working for the USA Today Network’s Wisconsin Investigative Team, author John Ferak wrote dozens of articles examining the murder case again Steven Avery, who had already beat one wrongful conviction only to be charged with the murder of Teresa Halbach in 2005. The case became the wildly successful Netflix Making a Murderer documentary.

In Wrecking Crew: Demolishing the Case Against Steven Avery, Ferak lays out in exacting detail the post-conviction strategy of Kathleen Zellner, the high-profile, high-octane lawyer, to free Avery. To create this work, Zellner, perhaps America’s most successful wrongful conviction attorney, gave Ferak unique access to the exhaustive pro bono efforts she and her small suburban Chicago law firm dedicated for a man she believes to be a victim of an unscrupulous justice system in Manitowoc County.

High quality true crime

Wrecking Crew: Demolishing the Case Against Steven Avery. - Gripping and worrying from the start.
Steven Avery's story is disturbing and worrying whichever side your on - Is he a killer tried & convicted by a jury or is he a victim of a vendetta by the local sheriffs department.
A great read/listen the book is the story of how a top lawyer and her team set out to prove his innocence. The outcome still hasn't been decided by a new trial.

The book was a great follow up from the tv series. I look forward to following this case and see where it leads. "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

Great audiobook!

So much more information than what was shown in the Netflix series. One of the most gripping books I have read.

Wow!

Loved it.Very eye opening. Really detailed the why regarding the corruption that took place in the organization and their local legal system. They never stood a chance to have a fair trial! Thank God for KZ!

This a story you’ll keep going back to.

I find my self going back in the chapters and sifting through it again and again. It is fascinating how the truth is uncovered time and time again. A remarkable case of wrongfully imprisoned again…..

Kind of monotonous; ending leaves you hanging

I didn’t love this one. Most of it discussed allegations of duplicity and double dealings of law enforcement at Manitowoc county. It rambled on a bit too much.

The ending wasn’t very satisfying, as Avery’s defense drones on. I also saw that two other Audibles claim justice was served. I may listen to one of those to get a different opinion. Any way you look at it, this is a fascinating case. I just really hope an innocent man isn’t spending the rest of his life in jail — after spending many prior years in jail for a crime that he didn’t commit.

Facts are there.

I can't wait to hear the END results. In the sequel, I hope you include all of the conspirators' due SHAME

Free The Manitowoc Two!

Steven Avery has spent more time in prison, than any innocent man should ever have to, especially in these United States. Glad he has a major advocate for him now. Hopefully the courts will finally see what everyone else does.
The book does a great job in breaking down the case and getting to the actual facts. This is the book some Manitowoc officials hoped would never see the light of day. It does a terrific job in shining a light on the case and exposing the horrible truth. The fact that a person like Avery, or even more so his nephew Brendan Dassey, can be manipulated, abused, and have their freedom taken away, for so long, in the modern United States is astonishing.
The narrator has a very good voice. He hits the right inflections and tone throughout the book. Top notch performance.
In summary, this is a great true story, with great writing, great narration and most importantly, the greatest of all, is that it sheds even more light on corruption and. the railroading of 2 innocent men. Neither one should have ever had spend a day in prison, never mind most of their adult lives.
