The New York Mafia has been around for decades, and the Giuliani’s have ruled their criminal empire with an iron first. But wait. There’s an upstart waiting in the wings, and the Lombardi’s are about to claw their way in, thanks to the decline of the city’s ruling family.

The prize to be had in the upcoming battle is New York Harbor. The warriors? Francesco Giuliani, the bad-boy son and enforcer of the family, and Jessica Lombardi, her family’s lawyer who has learned the business from her father and brother.

New York, already on alert when two crime bosses are murdered, is now flooded with NYPD and FBI, all chasing after the culprits.

When Francesco and Jessica meet, the sparks fly, but will that be enough to stop the two families from tearing apart not just the city, but their love?

I love a good mafia book so this sounded appealing when I first heard about it. While this book was a bit slow to gain my interest, it had a really unexpected twist at the end that I thought was surprising and very well done. The end for me was definitely the best part. Freddy Moyano did an amazing job bringing all the characters to life with their various accents and voices. That Italian accent was a bit hard to get used to at first but it was very fitting for this book. I received this audiobook for free at my request in exchange for an honest review.

Loved the ending!

Generally I start an audiobook review with my brief thoughts of the storyline and then I go into the narration. However, I’m going to start this one with my thoughts on the narration. For the first 20 minutes I was a bit on the fence about proceeding or not. The narrator, Freddy Moyano, is using a heavily Italian accent. I wasn’t really sure if I liked it or not but I’m no quitter… I proceeded. Eventually I was lost in the story and the voice just fit. So, if you enjoy accents and seeing the talent of the narrators than I seriously suggest you give this a try. However, if you’re a person that doesn’t enjoy accents than I’d stay away from this. It’s a heavy one and at times it can be hard to understand but it really fits the storyline!

So the storyline was fantastic! I really have a thing for mafia books and this one was full on unpredictable… and the twists in it! Gahhh!!! I’m not going into the plot because this is a surprising story with characters you’ll either love or love to hate!

Give it some time!! It'll grow on you!

It's such a shame when true love is doomed because of a family feud. Our two lovers are faced with this, a little reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet without the fake suicide. Will their families interference in their lives lead to more bloodshed? My attention was caught from the beginning and I became invested in this story, wondering all the time what was going to happen next. The rivalry between their families was so well detailed.

I had never read or listened to anything by this author but as I love a good crime story, particularly mafia stories I thought I would give it a listen. The author's take on organized crime and Mafia crime families in NYC is interesting and it hit all the right notes in my opinion. It's well-written, I thought the storyline was reminiscent of the old black and white films I remember watching on TV. It's about the heyday of the Mafia when crime families were fighting for power and control and building their kingdoms, by whatever means necessary. The characters were nicely developed.

Francesco, the son of the Giuliani family, is an arrogant and narcissistic man. Jessica Lombardi has been living abroad, getting her law degree but now she's home and she wants in on the family business. But both her father and her brother refuse to involve her and aren't giving her enough responsibility. When Francesco and she meet there's instant chemistry between them, a forbidden relationship develops. The story was a rollercoaster full of action, drama, intrigue, suspense, and romance.

The narration by Freddy Moyano was performed well, he did all the voices for all the characters, bringing them to life-giving and imbuing them with a strong sense of personality and attitude. His accents were realistic and made the book have a more gritty real feel to it.

I was given this audiobook as a gift and am voluntarily writing my review.
