Publisher's summary

A brutal serial killer was stalking Omaha. But who could kill with such precision?

Detective Derek Mois wasn’t sure what he was dealing with when in March 2008 he walked into a home in an affluent Omaha neighborhood and was confronted with the bodies of an 11-year-old boy and the housekeeper. Both had been murdered with kitchen knives plunged into their throats. Who would do something so vile, and why? Lacking answers, Mois and other detectives working the case were stumped.

Five years later, a strikingly similar crime occurred in which two more victims were brutally murdered with knives expertly thrust into their jugular veins. The modus operandi of the murders pointed Mois and a special task force in the direction of looking for a serial killer. But no one could have anticipated that path would lead to the Department of Pathology at Creighton University.

In Pathological: The Murderous Rage of Dr. Anthony Garcia, authors Henry J. Cordes and Todd Cooper, who covered the story for the Omaha World-Herald, recount the dramatic tale of deep-seated revenge, determined detectives, and the sensational trial of the doctor-turned-serial killer.

Gripping!

I listen to a lot of true crime novels, and while the horrors one person can inflict on another are disturbing-I am not always moved to tears. The author captured the crime as well as the humanity of the victims in this story. Coupled with Kevin Pearce’s ability to read a book like none other, I listened to this book in nearly one sitting. It was just that good. My heart and prayers go out to the victims families and to the Garcia family as they too have to live with the horror and loss brought on by their son. There are no winners in this story, but there was justice.

Not A Lot Of Suspense Here...

I mean, the title is the give away so during the first half of the book, you know all the leads are false ones. Most of the book is about forensics and the detectives, and this does make the book somewhat interesting, but this does not compare with the work of Jack Olsen or other more reputable true crime writers.

Narratied by Kevin Pierce, of course it's good!

Well written and a quick listen. I would be interested in hearing Garcia's story in more detail.

Lacked something

the book was well written and interesting and gave background and insight into everyone BUT the main character... there was very little insight or even background .... his life just sort of started when he was in college..... it just fell short

so far the best I've read for 2019

I've read quite a few crime stories on Audible. This one was very well written then also delivered in such a way that you hung on every word. this is written concisely factually and recorded in such a way that you really feel involved in the story.

What a Disgusting Human!

What an ego!
This was a fantastic read, following the disgraceful Dr. Anthony Garza, and his destructive path of death.

This book will pull you in, and fascinate and disgust you as you read. Meticulously done.

Kevin Pierce does it again!!

Without Kevin Pierce narration, I'm certain I would have never finished this book. It was somewhat interesting, but I found myself distracted & floating off from time to time. I would back it up a couple minutes to listen to it again. Kevin Pierce is an excellent narrator, but this story didn't have all the detail I was looking for. It's a good book, but has the potential to be so much better.

Great story and narrator

I really like the narrator Kevin Pierce. He could read the side of a cereal box and I would listen with rapt attention.

Remarkably interesting and well-researched.

When it comes to using my monthly credit, I rarely choose books that are less than 10 hours. I'm glad I broke that rule with this one. Even though I'd love it were longer, that could have easily made it too bloated. You get a lot of information, but none of it redundant or extraneous. The author does a great job of showing you all the necessary information and keeps an objective tone. The author doesn't use spurious language meant to either make you like, hate or feel sympathy or empathy toward the subjects like SO many other true crime authors do. What's great about the relatively short length is it's replayability. How does Pathological bring it home for the win? Kevin Pierce and his instantly identifiable, pleasant voice. Pierce and Scott Brick are my favorite narrators, by far.
