In Harry Potter and Philosophy, 17 philosophical experts unlock some of Hogwarts' secret panels and uncover surprising insights that are enlightening both for wizards and the most discerning muggles.

You don't need a diploma in arithmacy, the friendship of a hippogriff, or even a Hogwarts Library card to discover amazing and arcane secrets in the labyrinthine world of Harry Potter.

Among the occult lore here revealed, behold the best recipe for true courage, proof that self-deception does not yield happiness, how ethics can be applied to the branch of technology known as magic, why the mirror of Erised isn't adequate for real life, whether prophecy rules out free choice, and what Dementors and boggarts can teach us about joy, fear, and the soul.

I loved this audiobook. It contains fascinating and varied essays on many different philosophical topics using something many people are familiar with: Harry Potter references. The narrator reads it just right to make it understandable, not an entirely easy thing to do when it comes to philosophy. If you love Harry Potter, and enjoy a bit of mental exercise, this is definitely the book for you. I just finished listening to it for at least the third or fourth time, and I plan to start it again tomorrow. I think this book is even better as an audiobook than as a hard copy because of the narrator, and I am pretty picky when it comes to narrators. Many of them annoy me with their affectations, but this one is excellent. He reads it as if he not only understands it, but also as if it were his own ideas he was explaining. I think the only thing that could have made it better is if he had a British accent. I love that the essays in this book use something I'm so familiar with (Harry Potter) to introduce ideas and thoughts that I had never really had before, or if I had, they were throughly fleshed out. Honestly, I feel smarter for having listened to it, which is probably why I'm going to listen again tomorrow. I go back to this when I'm in between other audiobooks, just for fun. Definitely worth at least one listen, but I bet you can't stop there either.

Worth listening to again and again!
