Breeze escapes his demons in Florida by moving to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. He and Brody are settling into their new life when he stumbles onto a plot of marijuana plants on public land. Knowing a thing or two about growing weed, Breeze befriends the mysterious mountain man tending to the crop. When his new friend is killed, he tries to help law enforcement solve the crime. When the authorities prove reluctant, he is forced to take matters into his own hands. In the process, he transforms from boat bum to a true man of the mountains.

I liked the story. The narrator was ok but not quite right for this character. The previous narrator was better with voice for these characters and better than the original narrator beginning the Trawler Trash series. However, I will indeed continue this series to the end. They are approx. 5 hrs long and great for driving to/from work and doing activities around the house while listening. Thanks for the stories.

The story of Breeze is still quite interesting and I will remain a listener. My issue with this particular book however is the surprise of yet another new narrator. It derails me when they get a new narrator because I'm used to the characters sounding a certain way. This particular narrator also seemed to be almost whispering at times which I didn't understand why. Oh well still a good read but please stop changing the narrator... This is the same thing that derailed me with Tim Dorseys series about Serge A Storms...

Still interesting...

I didn’t particularly care for the “new” narrator. If Ed could go back to the very first guy he used, I’d be ecstatic.

Great story as usual

I enjoyed Breeze and his boating adventures. When Breeze suddenly went to the mountains of North Carolina I was disappointed but as a NC native, I thought it would be ok. Two things ruined this book for me. First, the narrator reads it as if he’s reading the words for the first time. With unnatural pauses and little inflection. Second the magical mountain man skills that Breeze suddenly develops just don’t make sense in the story line. Of course you need to suspend disbelief to follow Breeze in any of these books. But Breeze besting some meth bums, or locals in a foreign country, or being a master boat handler all fit with the character. Coming from the flatlands and suddenly being supernaturally skilled in the woods because he spent a few weeks with Pop is incongruous. I’m skipping the rest of this series and this narrator and returning to the sea with Breeze in the next series.

A derailment of a good series
