After an epidemic of attacks by newly risen vampires terrorizes the city, authorities pressure Charles Vaughan and the Vampire Court to determine who is responsible. Complicating matters, a local businessman hires infamous bounty hunter Jack Justice to find and execute the rogues after his sister is attacked. Justice and his entourage turn the city and the investigation into a three-ring circus of media attention, vamp-hunter groupies, and self-appointed “deputy” vamp hunters.

When mage symbology is found on a captured rogue vamp, Charles enlists the help of veteran mage Private Investigator Mark Dunlap to figure out what involvement mages have in the attacks. Dunlap brings in his newly hired MPI-in-training Alice Worth to help unravel the mystery.

In 200 years, Charles has never met anyone quite like Alice. Minutes after meeting him for the first time, she threatens to burn down Vampire Court headquarters. By the end of the night, Charles is sure of two things: Alice is not who or what she seems, and someday she will be his...if she doesn't get herself killed first.

I love this series, but this was definitely something I would have enjoyed reading over listening. I didn’t enjoy the narration at all.

Narrator was not my jam.

I'm glad it was only 5 hrs! I this is the poorest narration EVER. I have listened to over 300 books. This series was recommended to me, from FB group. I am glad to see the rest of the series is not read by Nathaniel J. Cooper. I will give the series a try, hopefully a different reader will make good.

Charles is an awesome vampire. I'm so glad to have found an author who doesn't need her vampires to be sappy, love-sick, depressed puppies. That is certainly not the case in the Alice Worth series. No, these are the real deal scheming, intelligent, powerful vamps that make your toes curls 🥰.

I read so many blogs from readers who hate Charles. (Those folks probably like their vampires to sparkle).  But oh my Goddess, Charles is so well written.

My only dislike for this book is that they changed narrators. It wasn't necessary. I would have preferred the original narrator. It doesn't matter that it was from Charles' perceptive. The original narrator has already crafted a excellent voice for the character. Not that this me narrator was bad. Just don't agree with switching them.

Oh Charles, how I love thee...
