About this listen

“A unique voice on money, one singularly attuned to...his generation.” (San Francisco Chronicle)

Buy as many lattes as you want. Spend extravagantly on the things you love. Live your rich life instead of tracking every last expense with Ramit Sethi’s simple, powerful, and effective six-week program for gaining control over your finances.

This isn’t typical advice from a money expert. In this completely updated second edition, Ramit teaches you how to choose long-term investments and the right bank accounts. With his characteristic no-BS perspective, he shows how to squeeze every hidden benefit out of your credit cards. Crush debt and student loans. Learn the exact words to negotiate a raise. Set up an automatic payment system and get on with your life. Plus, new material on overcoming psychological barriers, love and money, new investments options, and real audience stories of how applying Ramit’s principles led to a rich life.

“Don’t let the breezy, irreverent style of this book fool you. It contains serious advice on personal-finance decisions, from budgeting and savings to spending and investing.” (Burton G. Malkiel, author of A Random Walk Down Wall Street)

Absolute must listen and read.

This should be required reading at least once a year. I already knew 95% of what is in this book. BUT, I was not applying many of the strategies because it seemed too much of a hassle. This is a simple and incredibly effective financial roadmap to success that I immediately started to implement and save, make and earn an ROI. This book is the best under $20 investment you can make. I wish I would have done this 20 years ago. But I will make sure my teenage kids read this every year and avoid the pitfalls that 99% of people make that cost them potentially millions in earned investment income and a financially free life.

Superb personal finance book. Just get it already!

This book was really fantastic. Practical and well-researched / evidence-based, and as a bonus, at times hilarious.

interesting and fun read

Overall, I found the content to be reasonable. I do not agree with everything the author recommends and common sense and a little analysis will easily tell the reader what is best for them. This book is targeted towards a younger audience and the advice is basic basic basic... but apparently not known to many. I do recommend this. It's a fun and easy read with good advice.

Smart, to the point and Effective

This book doesn´t rely on the stupid carp, which is the reason why I carefully choose my finance books, it doesn´t rely on fear to lose your job, it doesn´t rely on stupid ambigous bible quotes, it doesn´t rely on the marketing stunt of making you beleive you´re goint to be moving stocks like a pro after you finish the book.
Ramit talks like a new friend you just made who is willing to teach you because he loves his job (he actually does) his advises are practical and "doable". He´s not affraid of telling you the truth about money and time; and how boring but vital investments really are, In the end I feel, from all the books of personal finance I´ve heard so far this is the one most likely to put you in the right way to make money.
His testimonials serve a purpose other than selling the book, and the stories are short and entretaining. The additinoal material is great and useful. I suscribed to his emal articles and they are useful, I don´t usually suscribe to all that crap but Ramit posts make sense and are appliable.
Totally worth purchasing. Listen to it thoroughly.

Finally a book that actually tells you how to do it

I have read many finance books now. This is the only book I would actually give to my kids or gift to a friend. This is a book that actually instructs you on what to do with your money. Many books give you a general idea. This book slaps you in the face and hands you the blueprint you can follow for life long success with money.

Have a friend struggling with money? Gift this to them now.

Phenomenal Intro to Money

I discovered this book through Ramit Sethi’s appearance on a podcast I love (Art Of Manliness), and since I trust that host (Brett McKay), I figured I could trust this book.

Now that in and of itself is a big deal, because I don’t trust finance books. I always grew up feeling like each one was a “get rich quick” scheme, designed to sell books and make the authors—not YOU—rich.

The first thing I noticed was that this book just feels different. It’s not about your perfect budget and how to cut your spending (necessarily), but it’s about you being able to love the life you want, even if that means you want to do nothing more than buy fancy clothes and collect shoes. You just have to know what you love, and perhaps more importantly know what you don’t.

I’ve taken plenty of time to do research on financial tips and tricks, and have gone through so many budgeting apps and ideas that my head hurts just thinking about it. But after reading this, I finally feel empowered to take control of my financial life (a brand new experience for me!) rather than my financial life taking control of me.

Besides a few unwelcome jabs at a younger generation who may not know much about money, I’d say everything about this book feels pitch perfect. But even in those moments where it feel like Ramit might be mean-spirited, it’s clear that he’s just trying to be truthful. He’s not here to coddle you or validate your bad financial choices. He’s here to teach you to be rich, and I’ve already started my journey by applying the knowledge.

I can’t wait to update this review years from now. I’m so confident in what I’ve learned!
