Two years removed from the events of Cash City, PI Nick Malick’s life is oddly...normal. Routine, even. He has a solid relationship with his girlfriend and her son, and a steady stream of investigative work from a prestigious law firm in town.

Cain City’s fortunes also seem to be turning for the better. After a crippling wave of crime and decades of economic deterioration, a large-scale movement to revitalize the city is underway. For the first time in a long time, there’s cause for optimism. That is, until Malick’s latest investigation finds him tugging the threads on a criminal conspiracy that touches all rungs of Cain City society, from the squalid street corners to the prosperous upper crust.

As the body count rises, the case becomes personal for Malick. It takes him to the brink of his physical and emotional limits and forces him to confront the sins of his past. It places the lives of the people he loves most in jeopardy, and it threatens to put the death nail, once and for all, in Cain City.

And in him.

I absolutely loved this book. It is written very well and the narrator is excellent. I first read Cash City and then looked for more written by Jonathan Fredrick. Hum Little Birdie picked up where Cash City left off. It is a real whodunit and has many interesting side stories with great detail that connects everything together. I definitely recommend this book to those who like thriller mysteries.

I don't do many reviews but this audiobook is a product of our times. It is full of injustice, crime, murder and hope. The narration is supurb and characters are real. Start with Cash City then listen to this one. It's not a romance or fairy tale. But once you start the books you won't be able to stop listening.

Book 2 in Series is Great

After 3 years and about 150 books this is the first time I can say without any doubt, with complete confidence that I believed Ari Fliakos was actually every single character! Can you say that about any other performer in a book with more than 10 distinct male and female personalities? If I didn’t know better he has MPD, I honestly bought in to each characters nuanced and complex personas. Remember this is a man standing in a recording room reading lines. Well, maybe it is actually a movie in your head. I cried! And I never cry!
The story was ok but the depth of characters, the authors writing style and this performance makes it a more than worthy follow up. Enjoy Ari’s performance and get ready for a 13 hour stay in Cain City with Nick Malick.

Fliakos made the story more powerful than it was
