Phrases were used Repeatedly such as 'that said' and 'he/she raised her pointer finger' There were some similarities between the crimes but enough difference to make them interesting.
These stories are set in Treasure Cove, California. The detective, David, is always questioning suspects without telling them why & then is miffed when they don’t want to respond to those questions. He seems a little too full of himself. If I were being questioned by him, he wouldn’t get too many questions answered without giving me context. Just because he is a detective, doesn’t give him the authority to treat suspects as if they have no rights.
By book 4, I found it a bit tedious. Each book tells me:
about her dead sister
they send the daughter away from town
The previous suspects are resentful of the couple.
The characters do not have a lot of depth.
In book 5, David determines Sabrina needs some self-defense and human interaction training.
If you're looking for a quick and easy read that doesn't require much investment, this series may be for you. Also, if you are not binging the series, the stories telling us some of the background information numerous times helps the reader stayed in tuned to what is going on. If binge reading, it’s a little over bearing and some of the books wouldn’t be books if the background information wasn’t repeated.
A good YA set
