Go to war or go to jail.

For small-time street hustler Cam Alvarez, the choice is simple. He has no family, no friends, no place in the world...nothing to lose. When his latest con results in the death of a cartel hitman, Cam opts to join the Marines and leave Earth to fight a vicious alien enemy.

Drafted into the Marine Drop-Troopers, Cam discovers there’s one thing he’s even better at than running street-con games, and that’s killing the enemy. Wrapped in an armored battlesuit, Cam finds purpose amidst the horror and destruction of the war, and the opportunity for a new sort of friends and family...if he can break the habits of a life spent alone, trusting no one.

And, if he can survive....

Rick Partlow returns with another kickass military sci-fi epic. It's perfect for fans of Jay Allan, Jasper T. Scott, and Scott Bartlett.

I came in with no expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed the story. You can tell that the author knows what he's talking about when it comes to military. The plot is solid and the characters are believable and likable. The narrator does a good job delivering the story. I'm starting the next book as soon as I'm done typing this. I will continue to listen to this series. I was given this code for free in exchange for a fair and honest review. I was NOT given the second or third books. I bought those after listening to this about halfway through. I'll leave those reviews as soon as I'm done listening. Highly recommended!

This is a great story!

if you loved the Heinlein Classic you'll love this series. The powered armor fits like a comfortable old slipper. I'm suprised it took an author so long to dust off the concept.

I really enjoyed the way Partlow sets the stage, and his execution isn’t half bad either ;). Plotting, Character and Action are all top notch. The hero we get is a criminal who picks military service for selfish reasons. In the smooth way Partlow shows us the challenges ahead, we get a front row seat to the war on Mars. The only preamble is short and along the way it’s still entertaining. I enjoyed the technological elements blending in with detail yet keeping us moving along the tracks.
Always moving. Sometimes growing in character. Building a force to be reckoned with as the war’s horizon reveals greater threats.
I bought the box set before finishing. The audio and narration is superb. I’m jacked up to keep listening.

Outstanding MilSF hero and setup

Good characters. typical sci-fi evil aliens premise. Characters dealing with the horrors of war death and lose from a ground pounders view.
plot does fast forward through what can be the dull stuff for untalented writers. But this plot seemed to be geared for a complete start to finish movie plot.
worth the credit if you like this kind of stuff

Pretty good if you like scifi Military combat.

From the beginning to the end, fully engrossing. We get to really get to know intimately the main character.

WHAT AN EXCELLENT WRITER!
