23 августа 1913 года в столице Дании Копенгагене был открыт памятник Русалочке - героине сказки Ганса Христиана Андерсена. Бронзовая Русалочка считается главной достопримечательностью и символом не только Копенгагена, но и всей Дании. Она сидит на гранитном валуне у набережной и приветствует корабли, заходящие в гавань. Вокруг памятника уже давно сложились свои традиции, например, моряки со всего света дарят ей цветы. А туристы считают, что скульптура приносит счастье, если к ней прикоснуться. Печальная история неземной любви Русалочки к принцу, волнует и детей и взрослых. Может быть по тому, что сам Ганс Христиан Андерсен утверждал, что: "Русалочка - единственная из моих работ, которая трогала меня самого".
