The first book in the wildly popular series of horror/comedy novels featuring Andrew Mayhem!

When you’re desperate for money, searching for a little adventure, and aren’t the most responsible person in the world, you can end up doing some outrageous things. Which is how Andrew Mayhem, a married father of two, ends up accepting $20,000 to find a key - a key buried with a body in a shallow grave.

But what he finds in the grave isn’t quite what he expected, and what begins as a simple evening of morally questionable manual labor turns into a really good way to die. Andrew finds himself investigating a murder while forced into a bizarre game of wits and courage played by an unseen killer with a twisted sense of humor. It’s a game that will involve him with a group of filmmakers known as Ghoulish Delights, who are hiding a secret that will test every last bit of Andrew’s nerve to discover.

And it’s impossible to find a babysitter.

"No author working today comes close to Jeff Strand's perfect mixture of comedy and terror." (Cemetery Dance)

I like Jeff Strands work but it wasn’t funny or scary or anything. Reading the second book psycho roommate. Same as book one. I’m just listening cuz I bought it. Bummer

Once again, Joe Hempel gives an exemplary performance of one of Jeff Strand’s original horror novels. And what a concept. Two guys accept a job from a woman to dig up her recently deceased husband’s grave and retrieve a key that was buried with him.

This turns into a complete nightmare for the two men, well, one more so than the other, as it turns into an investigation of the dead man’s business while an unknown killer has targeted them. Is the killer one of the employees or one of their clients?

It gets crazier by the page, and Joe Hempel keeps the action going and the listener wanting more!

Another Great Horror Story with a Great Narratot

This book started out so strong, and I was so excited. But it quickly turned into what I felt like was the author trying to be funny/quirky every single sentence. What started as funny became annoying. Its a shame because the kind of humor in the book is really good, its just supremely overused.

If you have the same problem, or even if you really liked this book, also go try "Tales From The Gas Station". I found that was a bit more thoughtful with the comedic moments while still being a strange horror/thriller title.

Tried to get through it.

I'm sure the story would have been riviting if it had been read by a less-monotone narrator, but I couldn't bring myself to even finish it.

Meh.
