Harmed by the System

This was a heartbreaking story of two families whose children were wrongly removed over false abuse charges by the Texas Child Protective Services. What happened to both was a travesty and shocking details are brought to light. Excellent reporting and interviews with the families really bring this story home. The sad fact is that it is still happening across the country. A must listen.

Child protection becomes family destruction

2 families among thousands just like them finally get justice when bureaucracy & understaffed agencencies make ignorant and thoughtless decisions about the welfare of children. Good programs, case workers, & systems designed to identify child abuse are broken. Families are torn apart because of incorrect assumptions, false reports, and inefficiencies because a few put public perception ahead of child protection. A Must Listen!

Heartbreaking

This was one of the best podcasts that I have ever followed. While the story itself was gut-wrenching, it was so well balanced regarding the difference in how each family was mistreated. Great, great job!

This is why you should always stand up to CPS!!

Always, always, always record your interactions with CPS. They are humans and do not have special abilities to not make mistakes or misunderstand a situation. Know your rights in your city/state as well.
What these couples went through was horrendous! This was a well laid out and thoughtful to tge families podcast. I enjoyed the fact this was morre than a retelling of a sitution. The interviews with people involved added a layer of authenticity to this series. 10/10!

Made me Cry

As a victim of CPS misconduct myself, this is extremely emotional for me, but it's also very well done.

The flip side to this story

Believe me when I say this happens more than it should. However, as a social worker I have to also say that CPS is right more often than they are wrong. There have to be investigations but I feel like these two were seriously mishandled. It’s easy to blame CPI and social workers though. We just have to remember that there ARE bad parents out there that make CPI investigations necessary.

Very unfair system

We should all be very disturbed by these stories. This is what can happen when government officials go to extremes while eliminating our basic constitutional rights. They call the shots while the parents are assumed to be guilty.

We must seek a balanced system that is not biased by government officials’ and judges’ fears of negative consequences.

Informative!

This was a very well put together documentary. I was unaware of these issues with CPS. Wow!
