  • Sam Stein: Can Trump Avoid Humiliation in Iran?
    Apr 22 2026

Trump's madman antics got him into a game of chicken with Iran, but he's up against people who are even crazier than he is. And he is not likely to get a deal with Tehran that is any better than Obama's nuclear agreement—which Trump called the worst deal in the world. Plus, the Virginia win is another reminder that Dems can effectively play hardball, Kevin Warsh is looking like an alarming pick for the Fed, the media coverage of the mass shooting in Shreveport was almost non-existent, MAGA is obsessed with Mamdani, Sam and Tim have new Cabinet rankings, and is there a way to stop Kushner from making deals with Sharia law countries?

    Sam Stein joins Tim Miller.

    show notes

    • Catherine on Warsh failing the big test in his confirmation hearing
    • Will Saletan on the latest anti-MAMDANI bill
    • Jonathan on the national media largely ignoring the mass shooting in Louisiana

  • Tracy Alloway and Jordan Ritter Conn: The Global Economic Shock from a Stupid War
    Apr 21 2026

Trump keeps jawboning the markets to try to manage the fallout from the war on Iran, but we have yet to see the full economic impact of his foreign policy misadventure. Oil and gas facilities in the Gulf have been critically damaged and will take years to repair—which will inevitably lead to higher fuel prices. And countries are stockpiling commodities and products like fertilizer, which will also feed inflation. Plus, a new book on the social and economic travails of modern American men.

The Ringer's Jordan Ritter Conn and Bloomberg's Tracy Alloway join Tim Miller.

    show notes

    • Jordan's new book, "American Men"
    • Tracy's podcast, "Odd Lots"
    • "Road from Raqqa," Jordan's book about two Syrian brothers
    • The NYT story on the Syrian billionaires and their business deals with the Trump family
    • Jordan's reporting on the heartbeat of resistance in Minneapolis

  • Bill Kristol: The Tough Guy Really, Really Means It This Time
    Apr 20 2026

Just hang tight: Trump is super close to a deal with an enemy that he handed all the leverage to. Absolutely do not read his steady supply of hollow threats as him begging Iran for a face-saving off-ramp. Meanwhile, back in reality, Iran too can see how desperate Trump is, the war is helping China feel emboldened, and some of our closest post-WWII allies think Beijing is more dependable than the U.S. under Trump. Plus, Hegseth has chosen an ideal time to pick a fight with the secretary of the Army, numerous officials at the FBI are alarmed by Kash's alleged alcohol-induced absences, kudos to Ossoff for the way he talked about corruption and kleptocracy, and more Vance-splaining from the newbie Catholic Veep.

    Bill Kristol joins Tim Miller.

    show notes

    • Tim’s livestream Monday at 8ET on YouTube or Substack
    • JVL on the "Trump Madman Theory' of the stock market
    • Lauren on the Dems preparing for a potential midterm-year SCOTUS vacancy
    • Tim's 2020 piece on Joe DiGenova
    • Images of the Poodle Room, Kash's alleged hangout in Vegas

In the beginning, I had really enjoyed and loved the podcast until I had gotten tired of Tim Miller's ability to play a very dark devil's advocate. i found it so dark that I began to wonder if he knew and liked the "devil." Try it for yourself, though, because your experience may be different. All that said I have just followed his Hollywood podcast and just seeing the show's 'bio' I'm gonna loved it.

Political discussion in GOOD FAITH.

I may not always agree with Charlie, but his sincere discussion on all of the day's latest topics help me stay up to date with the latest news and bring a logical and rational perspective to all of it. His perspectives along with many of his guests bring a point of view that tries to take a step back and look at the overall picture and how current events compare and contrast with history and the basic principles of democracy. Highly recommended.
