  • 597 Karl Ove Knausgaard (with Bob Blaisdell) | My Last Book with Nicholas Dames
    Mar 25 2024
Norwegian author Karl Ove Knausgaard (b. 1968) became known in his home country - or at least its literary circles - when he put out two well-received novels in the late 1990s. But it was the publication of his six-volume autobiographical series Min Kamp, or My Struggle, that turned him into a household name - and when the books were translated into English in 2012, he became a worldwide publishing phenomenon. In this episode, Jacke talks to editor Bob Blaisdell about his own reading of Knausgaard, the experience of interviewing him, and the editing of the new book Conversations with Karl Ove Knausgaard, which collects twenty-two interviews with Knausgaard, all conducted as this curious and controversial writer was gaining worldwide attention. PLUS author Nicholas Dames (The Chapter: A Segmented History from Antiquity to the Twenty-First Century) stops by to discuss his choice for the last book he will ever read. And finally, poet and podcaster Shin Yu Pai (Ten Thousand Things) selects the last book she will ever read. Smaklig måltid! • 595 Machiavelli (with Gabriele Pedulla) | My Last Book with Sarah Ruden
    Mar 11 2024
For centuries, Machiavelli has been viewed as everything from an insightful pragmatist to the mouthpiece of Satan. In this episode, Jacke talks to Italian scholar Gabriele Pedullà about his book On Niccolò Machiavelli: The Bonds of Politics, which offers a surprising new take on a 500-year-old literary and political giant. Insightful reviews - Amusing delivery

I have been delighted by Jacke Wilson's thoughtful podcast of famous literature. His reviews are insightful and well composed. Most delightful is his amusing delivery style. Wilson gives the chosen topic a brief review (one hour episodes usually) including the biography of the author and the historic context of the work. He selects a theme in the literature to expound on shares his personal response to the work. I think History of Literature is a very positive and inspiring podcast.
