Second verse to the national anthem
First of all let me say that I love you guys. I love to listen to you. Despite my whiteness I agree with most of what you have to say. I wanted to inform you about the second verse to our national anthem. You will be pleased to know, as I am, that it does not refer to lynchings, hangings, the murder of slaves, or any of those horrific things that you mentioned. I have always loved the second verse, much more than the first. I have felt that it applies much more to today’s world than the first one does. So, here are the lyrics:
And thus be it ever that free men Shall stand between their loved homes and the war’s desolation.
Blessed with victory and peace, may our heaven ransomed land bless the power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
And then conquer we must when our cause it is just, and this be our motto: In God is our trust. And the Star-Spangled Banner in freedom shall wave o’er the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.
I would have sung it for you guys, but there was no option for a voice recording. Your loss. Lol Emily from New York
