• A New Jersey state trooper died during training for an elite emergency response unit, New Jersey State Police said.

• Students protesting the war in Gaza left their camp at the University of Southern California without major incident after they were surrounded by police and threatened with arrest. In Boston, police arrested about 100 protesters at an encampment at Northeastern University. But, the school's commencement yesterday was peaceful. In this election year, the protests could have an impact on politics.

• Philly’s premier vessel for parties on the Delaware River, the Spirit of Philadelphia, turns 40 this year. It celebrated the occasion and the kick-off to a busy summer season this past week.

• Fire officials say more than 100 residents may be displaced after a fire at an apartment complex in West Philly on Sunday afternoon.

• Philadelphia City Council will consider a bill that would allow members of the Citizens Police Oversight Commission to unseat one another more easily. It could add fuel to the commission’s already contentious interactions.
• You may have never seen it, but a sprawling $13.5 million estate in Montgomery County that inspired The Philadelphia Story has hit the market.

• Despite the rain, which usually tempers gun violence, it has been a bloody weekend so far: with 5 teenagers shot in about 24 hours. Here’s KYWs Crime and Justice reporter Kristen Johanson.
• 40,000 runners braved the chill and the rain today for the annual Broad Street Run. Runners gathered this morning at the starting line in North Philly for the 10-mile trek south to the the Navy Yard.
• This is a big year for Friends of the Wissahickon. The conservation nonprofit is celebrating its 100th anniversary with special events throughout 2024.
