InFrequency - The Monthly Music Podcast Collection

By: Infrequency
  • Summary

  • InFrequency is a monthly collection of music podcasts including Temporary Fandoms, MSG10 (Movements, Scenes, and Genres) and sometimes others. Hosted by Ewan and Nick, and featuring an ever widening range of guests, from musicians, journalists, authors, to fanatical music fans. We aim to encourage the deep-dive rather than being gatekeepers. We have looked at bands like the Fall, LCD Soundsystem and more, as well as genres such as Riot Grrrl and New York No Wave. Head over to our home at infrequency.co.uk and stream some of the shows with music included. This is a TempFans production

    Call the cops!

We are back with an episode of Temporary Fandoms, and it's a two-parter.

I am joined by the always excellent John Tansey and Zoe Von Hess to work our way through the work of the inimitable Shaun Ryder.

We look at the first half of his career in this episode right up to the first Black Grape Album.

There is a playlist to accompany this episode and you can find that here : MONDAYS PLAYLIST

  • Math Rock, With Glen Hodgson: Movements, Scenes, and Genres
    Oct 12 2022

I invited guitarist for Delta Sleep, Glen Hodgson on to talk us through what is and isn't Math Rock. We got some answers for sure, but I still can never put my finger on what makes something "mathy".

I regale Glen with phrases from the early 90s like "wazzy" which just makes me feel old. We also talk about being in Delta Sleep, touring, music production, the Albini sound, and a bunch of other stuff.

We work our way from Slint, through Don Caballero, Toe, Pretend, Faraquet, up to Real Terms. We even have a track that even to me doesn't seem very "mathy"

  • The Left Bank Disco, Derry, 83-84, With Raymond Gorman: Movements, Scenes, and Genres
    Sep 5 2022

I was joined for this episode by That Petrol Emotion guitarist Raymond Gorman to take us back to Derry in the mid 80's through the lens of his DJ stints at the Left Bank Disco.

We talk about the local scene, living in Derry in the mid 80's, being a DJ with a manifesto, Almost blowing yourself up on a lighting rig, starting a band, moving to that London, and in a break from normal MSG norms, stuff about the guests actual band.

Ewan does tell a few boring anecdotes, and here's a bonus drinking game for you, every time he mentions that he is from Wolverhampton - SHOT.

Tracks include Afrika Bambaataa, Mr Bloe, The Smiths, New Order, yes, and more.

Keep an eye out for the upcoming That Petrol Emotion boxed set, which is coming out in November on Edsel Records and it's called "Every beginning has a future'
