Releasing her first of 10 solo albums in 1999, titled Black Diamond, through her most recent, called Love Language in 2023, along the way she scored hits like “No More Rain (In This Cloud),” “Brotha/Brotha,” “Wish I Didn’t Miss You,” “I Wanna Thank Ya” and “Baby.”

    Going all the way back to the late 1970s, she was also a member of the pioneering female rap trio Sequence, and in the early 1990s recorded two albums with the R&B trio, Vertical Hold. Having also appeared in film and television, her music collaborators have included Charlie Wilson, Betty Wright, Macy Gray, Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, Alicia Keys, Moby, Rafael Saadiq, Earth Wind & Fire, Prince, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg and the Brand New Heavies.
