Tom Higgenson

Chris Demakes is such a good podcast! Loved the way Tom Higgenson broke down Hey There Delilah and shared that he borrowed tracks from Onelife ( a band that is now on his label, Humans Were Here) to write it.

Changed how I listen to music

I am a big Less Than Jake fan and have always enjoyed Chris’s onstage banter and sense of humor, so I was drawn to his podcast. What I didn’t expect was it to completely change how I listen to music. It is hard to explain, but songs used to just be songs to me, tied to my own experiences and memories. After listening to this podcast, I now hear songs as the sum of their parts, hearing how they were put together, why different decisions were made while recording, and even fascinating backstories about the songwriting process. Chris is even able to tease out ideas that the songwriters may not have even known about their own songs. Now I find myself listening to music wanting to know more about how it is written. Chris has been in the industry for a long time and has a lot of his own experience to draw on, and a lot of great memories with the people he interviews. Chris Fafalios, the producer, does a great job polishing the interviews and creating an overall great listening experience.

Start with an interview with an artist you know and love…and then explore some that you may not know. I’ve found a lot of new music and grown to appreciate some classics through this podcast. Hope you do too!
