Baseball Goes Global

Host Amy McCann is uniquely positioned to host a podcast about baseball with some of the best women players in the world; she's a ten-year veteran of the Australian National Women's Team, a silver and bronze medalist with Team Australia at the 2010 and 2014 Women's World Baseball Cup, and the 2006 Australian Female Baseball Player of the Year.

Amy's connections to the growing global universe of women who participate in baseball in diverse capacities on and off the field garner her some amazing guests whose riveting stories are told with humor and insight. The episode with Team USA All-Star Donna Mills, whose Boston accent paired with Amy's noticeably Aussie inflections provide some truly hilarious exchanges, is a deep dive into what drives girls and women who persist in playing baseball even after being encouraged to switch to softball, as unbelievably in 2021, most baseball-playing girls still are in the US. Listening to the conversations Amy has with the remarkable women of Team USA and other organizations now making it possible for girls and women to play, coach, umpire, and participate in baseball in whatever capacity they want to is an education, a very valuable one I'm so delighted to have discovered. This is definitely a podcast worth listening to amidst the cacophony of baseball-oriented programs designed mostly by and for men, and is a great example of why baseball needs women like Amy McCann, lots more women, to grow the game and help it continue to flourish into the next century.
