    Bex Smith is an International Footballer, famous for captaining the Olympic and World Cup teams twice for New Zealand’s National Team and culminating her club career at VfL Wolfsburg winning The Treble as UEFA Champions League, German League, and German Cup Winners up until her retirement in 2013. She's worked as a manager of Competitions at FIFA running the women’s World Cups, then Strategic Planning for women’s football for the last 2 years at FIFA. Bex was also the Global VP of women’s football at COPA90 and in 2020 Bex started Crux Sports looking to bridge the gap between women’s football and football stakeholders.


    In this episode Bex discusses her thoughts on Women's Football and has a refreshing perspective and inspiring outlook on the game and where it can go. She chats about the sliding doors moment she got to play football in the World Cup and how that lead to her becoming a professional footballer- which was never on the cards. We delve into the 50/50 decision she made to go for a beer with a friend one night that ultimately led her to get her job at FIFA. And we find out all about the sliding doors moment of how she met her partner, in a real moment of fate and timing!

During her impressive 17 year career at Glamour magazine, Jo famously launched the Women of the Year Awards and was a trailblazer at the publication and a true pioneer of glossy pages. She contributes articles for the majority of British titles including The Times, Telegraph, Evening Standard & Observer- hosts a weekly YouTube show ‘Palace Confidential’- hosts her podcast, Fame with Jo Elvin and writes for her highly successful Substack page ‘my goodness’.

  • Ep88: Sliding Doors with Ade Adepitan

    Ade Adepitan is a TV presenter, Paralympic Medallist and Journalist. With a career spanning over 20 years, he is a disability advocate and one of the first physically disabled television presenters in the UK. Born in Lagos, Nigeria and raised in East London, he survived polio as youngster after he began to lose the use of his legs. Becoming a wheelchair basketball player, he was part of the British team that secured a Bronze medal at the Paralympics, Silver in the European Championships and Gold in The World Championships; And in 2005 he was made an MBE for his services to disability sport. He has won many awards for his work as a presenter at the Paralympics (including a BAFTA) and has hosted countless documentaries and Children in Need.


    In this episode we get stuck in with the many Sliding Doors Moments Ade has had in his life, including catching Polio and the 'what if' moment he met his wife. Ade has an incredible outlook on life, sports and the challenges we face, especially growing up as a Nigerian family in the 70s in the UK. We delve into the life saving decision Ade made in his teenage years to move to Spain to play basketball. He opens up about the incredible achievement of crawling up a volcano for a documentary, however if it wasn't for his strong will and a courageous decision things would have been very different. And of course we discuss the Paralympics - and how being part of the Channel 4 bid to host them- changed his life!
