The NeoJurassic Podcast : The Wild Possibilities of a Jurassic World

By: NeoJurassic
  • Summary

  • “Dinosaurs and man, two species separated by sixty-five million years of evolution have just been suddenly thrown back into the mix together. How can we possibly have the slightest idea what to expect?” That’s a question I haven’t been able to stop thinking about since Alan Grant first posed it back in the summer of 93. Throughout the course of this season, we’ll be exploring some of the many fascinating questions that just might arise in a world shared by mankind and dinosaurs alike. As I am but a committed super fan with many more questions than answers, we’ll of course be taking these questions on with the help of an array of experts: paleontologists, zoologists, paleoartists, crispr conservationists, animal behaviorists, ecologists, and many others. Together, we’ll be exploring the scientific realities of their work, unexplored concepts from Michael Crichton’s novels & what surprising new developments we might be seeing in the very near future of the ‘Jurassic’ franchise.

  • ’Life As We Made It’ with Beth Shapiro
    Apr 8 2023

To celebrate the paperback release of Life As We Made It , The NeoJurassic Podcast returns from a lengthy hiatus to share a conversation with the book's author Dr Beth Shapiro.

"From the first dog to the first beefalo, from farming to CRISPR, the human history of remaking nature When the 2020 Nobel Prize was awarded to the inventors of CRISPR, the revolutionary gene-editing tool, it underlined our amazing and apparently novel powers to alter nature. But as biologist Beth Shapiro argues in Life as We Made It, this phenomenon isn’t new. Humans have been reshaping the world around us for ages, from early dogs to modern bacteria modified to pump out insulin. Indeed, she claims, reshaping nature—resetting the course of evolution, ours and others’—is the essence of what our species does. In exploring our evolutionary and cultural history, Shapiro finds a course for the future. If we have always been changing nature to help us survive and thrive, then we need to avoid naive arguments about how we might destroy it with our meddling, and instead ask how we can meddle better. Brilliant and insightful, Life as We Made It is an essential book for the decades to come."
