Having fended off attacks by the planet-harvesting GITHYANKI in a ship stolen grom a BEHOLDER CRIME BOSS, the swashbuckling paladin of herself, Mairi Stonedoter and her crew head toward the ROCK OF BRAL, a city built on an asteroid near the planet Toril. There she hopes to meet with COMMODORE KRUX, the contact of that was supposed to warn VAJRA SAFAR about extraterrestrial danger before it got too close…

Mairi is in space! Space, also known as THE ASTRAL SEA is navigated via specialized ships called SPELLJAMMERs. Mere moments after arriving in space Mairi and crew, aboard their commandeered spelljammer CEPHALABROAD, were attacked by GITHYANKI. They vanquished several of the boarding party and took one soldier, LIEUTENANT ZANTH hostage. He told them their planet was being seeded to drain its life energy and fuel that of his home star, XARYXIS. Before our heroes could give chase to the Gith’s ship a NAUTILOID, ship favored by the brain-eating MIND FLAYER floated into view.
