  • Ep 75 - Lily Samson, “The Switch”
    May 15 2024
What would happen if you and your bestie decided to secretly crawl into each other’s beds and seduce each other’s husbands without them knowing? That’s the premise behind author Lily Samson’s debut thriller “The Switch” and, of course, there’s something more sinister afoot. “The Switch” is a fast-paced, wild ride that I could not put down.

In this Season Seven finale, Lily shares how she knew what to reveal and when, the allure of social status, and what inspired this tantalizing story in the first place.

  • Ep 74 - Diane Richards, “Ella”
    May 8 2024
You’ve undoubtedly heard of American jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald, the First Lady of Song, but you likely don’t know much about her early life. My guest this week aims to change all that. Diane Richards is an author, playwright, singer, producer, and the Executive Director of the Harlem Writers Guild, which launched and supported Dr. Maya Angelou’s writing career, Diane’s novel “Ella” is a fictionalized biography spanning two years of Ella’s life, from her mother’s death in 1932 to her breakout performance at the Apollo Theater in 1934.

Diane, herself, is a talented dancer and singer, performing at Carnegie Hall and singing backup for Whitney Houston. Her lyricism pours through the pages, as Ella falls from one unbelievable tragedy to another, an ode to the tenacity, resilience, and talent of Ella Fitzgerald as powerful as any gospel.

  • Ep 73 - Sarah Penner, “The London Séance Society”
    May 1 2024
My guest this week is internationally-bestselling author Sarah Penner. Her debut novel “The Lost Apothecary,” was an Instant NY Times bestseller, a Book of the Year top 5 finalist, has sold over one million copies, is available in forty territories, and is currently in production as a drama series on Fox. Her second novel, “The London Séance Society,” was an instant NY Times, Publishers Weekly, IndieBound bestseller, as well as a Book of the Month pick for March 2023, and an instant international bestseller in Canada.

With its release in paperback just yesterday, I sit down with Sarah to talk all things “The London Séance Society.” Sarah shares why perspective doesn’t always mean intimacy, how she balanced dark and light, romance and murder, science and the occult, strong women and Victorian restrictions, and so much more. Did she know all the secrets the book holds when she began? Listen now to find out!
