On episode 347 of SOMEWHERE IN THE SKIES, we head to the Netherlands. On a cold winter night in 1972 in Soesterberg, one of the strangest UFO encounters unfolded in an otherwise quiet neighborhood. Officially investigated by the Dutch UFOlogical Centre, the incident has been almost completely forgotten over half a century later. But for one man who experienced it, it remains a night in in Netherlands he'll never forget.

Thoughts after a year of listening

I started off liking the podcast and he would always say he doesn't like to do politics and I liked that I just wanted a nice ufo podcast. Well after listening to a lot of his episodes I noticed politics coming up more and having nothing to do with UFOs it was just bashing the right calling them a cult blah blah blah. I don't align my self with the right or left because I can agree with both sides on some subjects but him and his guests that talk political will make you feel like a horrible person if you don't agree with what they see. I have unfollowed the podcast to find a better one.

Love this podcast

This podcast is great! I liked it so much I even became a Patreon subscriber.
I have read so many great books that I would have never known about without Ryan! He does a great job with storytelling and is very thorough when interviewing. I highly recommend Somewhere in the Skies, especially if you are an open minded intellectual.

Not as Open Minded as I Hoped

I'm pretty disappointed in this podcast. While Ryan seems pretty nice in the first handful of episodes, he starts acting like a totally different person depending on who his guests are later on. This was so annoying, because he'd make it sound like he agreed with an ETH believer in one episode then in the next completely bash that hypothesis and make it sound like we were stupid if we thought that theory made sense.

None of us know anything. None of us have physical proof or evidence of anything. I was really looking forward to hearing different ideas and broadening my knowledge. But I didn't want to be made to feel foolish for a belief in the ETH when his guests often never even brought up a counter argument for me to consider. If not aliens, then what? I guess I'll just Google current theories and stop listening to this podcast.

A thoughtful take on UFOs with ideal guests.

It's hard to find UFO-related stuff that isn't 90% frenzied speculation. This is a rare gem. Kind of like the podcast version of The Phenomenon. Ryan does a great job of walking the line between blind skepticism and blind belief. He may do an episode about a crazy-sounding mythical event, then bring on the one guest who could actually add some real light to it. And then he'll interview that guest from the perspective of somebody who also thinks it sounds crazy but is considerate and open minded enough to hear somebody out if it's the right somebody. He won't grill the guest like a debunker, but also won't just believe everything without some interesting evidence. This seems like it really draws out some fantastic insight from the guests, who are typically experts on that particular event/aspect.

Anyway, he captures well the perspective of somebody who would like all those great stories about UFOs to be true, but also has a reasonable expectation of evidence & proof. Definitely my favorite UFO podcast!
