  • Why We Should Actually Be Optimistic About The Environment with Environmentalist Adam Dorr
    May 31 2024

Adam Dorr is the Director of Research at the independent think tank RethinkX. He is an environmental social scientist and technology theorist whose recent RethinkX publications have focused on the disruption of the global energy sector by new energy generation and storage technologies, as well as the implications of the energy, transportation, and food disruptions for climate change. Adam regularly presents on stage, radio, podcasts, and television. He completed his MS at the University of Michigan's School for the Environment and Sustainability and his PhD at UCLA's Luskin School of Public Affairs. Hear us talk about "Factufullness: Ten Reasons Why We're Wrong About The World -- and Why Things Are Better Than You Think" by Hans Rosling. As well as his own book, "Brighter".

Undeniably Addictive

Everything necessary for a great podcast is encapsulated here. From a technical standpoint, the sound is clear and the discussions are lively with welcomed emotion, information, thoughtfulness, insight, humour, history, and enthusiasm for the subject matter. The intent behind Book Society is perfect for any book lover, history lover, conversationalist. The host is on-point and keen with seemingly immediate welcoming rapport with his guests, and asks contemplative questions while allowing the conversation to flow organically. He adapts and adjusts without railroading guest responses or forcing the conversation in narrow direction. Whether or not I’ve read the books of a particular episode, the discussion is always so fascinating without being heavy handed, it’s pure enjoyment to listen to. The spread of subjects within the focus are such that there’s an episode for anyone to get started with (the Watchman discussion is enough to give any Alan Moore fan heart palpitations), but - fair warning - you’ll be addicted after that.
