  • Episode # 344 Glass Onion with Paul Costello and Emma Kathryn from The Yearbook Committee Podcast
    May 1 2024
Paul Costello and Emma Kathryn from The Yearbook Committee Podcast return to Flixwatcher to review Paul’s choice Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. Glass Onion (2022) is a standalone sequel to Knives Out written and directed by Rian (Brick) Johnson. Daniel Craig reprises his role as detective Benoit Blanc. This mystery sees Blanc joining a group of “Disruptors” on a private Greek island for a murder mystery weekend hosted by Miles Bron (Edward Norton), a Elon Musk type tech bro and founder of Alpha. His guests include model-turned-fashion designer Birdie Jay (Kate Hudson), the governor of Connecticut Claire Debella (Kathryn Hahn) and her assistant, video game streamer Duke Cody (Dave Bautista) and his girlfriend and co-founder of Alpha and Miles's ex-business partner Andi Brand (Janelle Monáe). As with Knives Out, Glass Onion takes the classic murder mystery genre, throws in several red herrings and is full of fun and enjoyable performances from the ensemble cast. While not quite as intriguing and original as Knives Out, but still fun, Glass Onion still scores high on recommendability and engagement to score 4.23 overall [supsystic-tables id=357] Episode #343 Crew Links Thanks to the Episode # 343 Crew of Paul Costello (@)PaulCinephile) and Emma Kathryn from The Yearbook Committee Podcast Please make sure you give them some love More about Glass Onion For more info on Glass Onion can visit Glass Onion IMDB page here or Glass Onion Rotten Tomatoes page here. • Episode # 343 Stand by Me with Joshua Tonks and Becky Darke
    Apr 24 2024
Joshua Tonks (actor and screenwriter, The Latent Image (2022)) and Becky Darke (The Evolution of Horror, Don’t Point That Horror At Me and Return to Eerie, Indiana podcasts) return to Flixwatcher to review Josh’s choice Stand by Me. Stand by Me (1986) is a coming-of-age drama directer by Rob (When Harry Met Sally) Reiner and based on the Stephen King novella, The Body. Set in a fictional town of Castle Rock, Oregon in 1959 it tells the story of four friends who go on a hike to find the body of a missing boy. Starring Wil Wheaton as Gordon "Gordie”, River Phoenix as Chris, Corey Feldman as Teddy and Jerry O'Connell as Vern. Even though they are only aged 12 they all have their own struggles, Gordie is grieving the loss of his older and influential brother Dennis "Denny”, Teddy’s father is mentally ill, Chris is affected by his families bad reputation and Vern is bullied for his weight. The story is told in a flashback from the point of view of the “writer” who is now an adult Gordon, played by Richard Dreyfuss. Unsurprisingly Stand by Me is rated ‘most liked’ on Netflix, it’s period piece charm and engaging child actor performances make it the much loved classic and the Flixwatcher scores reflect this. With a runtime under 90 minutes it also scored high on repeat viewing to score 4.42 overall.
