"Do anything rather than marry without affection.” (Pride and Prejudice)

During the upheaval of the Great Depression, Elizabeth Bennet’s life is torn asunder. Her family’s relocation from the bustle of the big city to a quiet family farm has changed her future, and now, she must build a new life in rural Meryton, Kentucky.

William Darcy suffered family turmoil of his own, but he has settled into a peaceful life at Pemberley, the largest farm in the county. Single, rich, and seemingly content, he remains aloof - immune to any woman’s charms.

Until Elizabeth Bennet moves to town.

As Darcy begins to yearn for something he knows is missing, Elizabeth’s circumstances become more dire. Can the two put aside their pride and prejudices long enough to find their way to each other?

1932, Karen M. Cox’s award-winning debut novel, is a matchless variation on Jane Austen’s classic tale.

“1932” by Karen M Cox has been a beloved novel since it’s first release ten years ago. Loving it as I do, I was ever hopeful the narration would be worthy of the work. This “Pride and Prejudice” reimagining, set in 1932 America is tragic, heart-breaking, spellbinding, and gloriously romantic. Voice actress Elizabeth Grace’s superb performance brings an extra dimension to the story as she literally inhabits the characters we know so well yet set in an era far from Austen’s canon, and her interpretation of Elizabeth Bennet gave me chills as she discovers herself and her love for William Darcy. And her honest portrayal of Darcy is swoon worthy! I loved escaping into this outstanding audiobook—a definite favorite that I look forward to revisiting on long drives and while needing diversion during tiresome chores! A must for your audiobook collection.

Gave me chills! Swoon worthy!

I have read two of Karen M. Cox’s books now and have to say she is fast becoming a favorite author. And Elizabeth Grace is becoming a favorite narrator as well, there are few who can perform a credible, deep and swoon worthy Darcy voice, but she pulls it off.

This story was well thought out and I found myself caught up in it very quickly. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves Pride and Prejudice/ Elizabeth and Darcy!!!

Excellent twist, truly enjoyable!

Fabulous narration and performance by Elizabeth Grace. This book is everything a modern variation should be. Just love it!

Having read so many Regency era variations of Pride and Prejudice, I really appreciate a modern or historically-timed version to change things up. This depression-era piece, so wonderfully written, fits that bill nicely. The dialogue is very good and flows throughout. The character portrayals are a bit different than we might expect, and nicely woven into the storyline. Georgiana is older, and still a victim of Wickham, but told in a different manner. Richard is a friend, rather than a family member. Darcy still seems dark and brooding, and Elizabeth still an obstinate headstrong girl. Their main obstacle is a lack of communication. Some mature content between a married couple, but is written in a non-vulgar manner. I loved the story. Karen Cox never disappoints, and I highly recommend this excellent variation.

Oh! I forgot to mention how precious little Maggie is, an extra sweet part of the story. I love her!

A Beautifully Told Story

I normally prefer regency Jaff but this story was great. The narrator did a great job too.

Great Jaff
