Lucy Maud Montgomery OBE (1874-1942), published as L. M. Montgomery, was a Canadian author best known for her Anne Shirley series of novels. Montgomery went on to publish 20 novels, 530 short stories, 500 poems, and 30 essays. Most of the novels were set in Prince Edward Island.

Good series

The accent was very distracting as it’s not in keeping with the characters. The voices weren’t great.

Et tu Bruté

Okay…I’ve definitely heard worse and if you immerse yourself, you might be able to ignore some things because you can hear different tones and voices she uses. I appreciate that a lot so for the most part I can ignore most oddities. I rather enjoy her accent and most character voices. However, there are some things that are so odd, and which I’ve never heard said the way she did, that laugh when I hear them and they knock me immediately out of the immersive experience.

Not an exhaustive list, just two notables:

Anne of Avonlea - There is a humorous section where Donnell is written in the book with emphasis on on the first or last syllable because Mrs. Donnell is blustering about how the name is pronounced. Since I’ve read the books I understand what is happening, however, if you are listening to this, there is absolutely no difference in the way in which the reader pronounces the emphasis. The only thing she does is split it up Don-nell. It misses the point.

Anne of the Island - Has she never heard of Brutus and Shakespeare or heard the phrase “et tu Bruté”? I mean in this day and age, you could probably look it up and hear it pronounced online but she chose to spell “et tu” and pronounce Bruté like “brute squad, I’m on the brute squad”.

Also, I personally think it’s sad she didn’t go on to read Rainbow Valley.

Most of the audio book is pretty well done. Since I grew up on the books and movies, no one will ever do Anne like Megan Follows and the other characters like the actors in the movies.

Frustrating set up but story is good

We already listened to an audio book of Anne of Green Gables so I purchased this so we could continue the story. It is very frustrating that all of the books are listed as chapters in a “run on” series with no way to tell where each of the books starts. Also, the chapters listed don’t always correspond to what my audio player says the chapter is. We preferred the other narrator but this one is tolerable. Just sometimes hard to tell which character is talking because she doesn’t change the voices.

Why have a Croatian narrate this

Horrible voice with bizarre lisp, why not let any Canadian actress read this? Hard to listen to.
