Hanns, who is based on the inspiring true story of a German Jew returning to the country of his birth, is horrified by the reality of what many of his people endured and what he narrowly escaped. The spark of justice is ignited in Hanns when he is assigned with the insurmountable task of interrogating the captured Nazis. While his eye lingers on hunting down those who have escaped, Hanns is enraptured with a righteous fury and must weigh the consequences of revenge against the balance of justice.

Although their paths are separate, both Hanns and Eleonore are thrust into a Germany that is still under the shadow of indoctrination. Both come to understand that there are few that they can trust and, although defeated, the Nazi plague still holds sway over those who are lost to moral decay.

Every time I hear stories and accounts from survivors of the Holocaust, I always wondered what exactly did they do right after they were liberated. What was the next step? How did they start over? Did they received help? How did they end up who and what they were in their lives?

This continued depiction of Eleonore Hodys gave an inside look at one person's next step to a new life after such a harrowing experience. And the bits of Auschwitz that linger in their nightmares and, even, in their backyard.

Superb narration by Kirsten Potter.

Great sequel!

enjoyed the previous book, enjoyed those sequel, & moving on to the next one!!! 😀

Suspenseful story

Well written story of the continued struggles facing Europeans on all sides after the liberation of the Nazi death camps.

The story was about Elinor..

But spent way too much time on a history lesson. The part about the trials dragged on, and while interesting, it isn't why I purchased this book. Hours went on with details about the trial. I wanted to hear Elinors story. There are plenty of nonfiction books detailing the history of the Nazis.
