In this BetterListen Classic Course, recorded in NYC in 1989, Robert A. Johnson, the celebrated author of He, She, and We, revisits two medieval tales and illuminates how this feeling function has become a casualty of our modern times.

Johnson tells the story of the Wounded Fisher King from the Grail Myth to illustrate the anxiety and loneliness that plague men. From the folktale of the Handless Maiden, he explains the very different frustrations of women and describes how these disparities in the way we suffer account for much of the tension and miscommunication between men and women. His insightful analysis shows that these two stories, created centuries ago, are even more relevant today.

This classic from our archives is sure to spark insight and intrigue and shed light on the psyche of men and women.

I liked the myths he picked for the masculine and feminine development. The audio was okay for a live recording. I thought the distinction between where the masculine and feminine are wounded in the development of consciousness. I feel he didn't get why the healing of the feminine was bringing the baby masculine out of the water. When she reaches down into the unconscious to recover her baby her hands were healed. She now has the agency the masculine gives every woman. He said the water represents reality. In that case it could be, as she reaches down into reality she is able to access her masculine. Either way she strips the illusions away and can live effectively in the complete world.

Myths can still guide us.

Thank you for the best way to deliver a message of the masculine and feminine through storytelling

Best small listen this year!

Wonderful and wise. The only critique is that it seems the original recording skips past a word or two about a dozen times. Sometimes it isn’t significant, others felt more critical in their importance.

Good wisdom
