Publisher's summary

A dark secret. A taboo love. A war upon the living.

After being kidnapped by occultists, Arabella Grace and her family move to the mining town of Port Tablot to forget the horror they experienced in England. With scars adorning her body, Arabella searches for peace by hiding within her songs.

But Port Tablot has its own demons. As the dead leave their domain, a spark of magic awakens within Arabella, and her songs have the power to stop the creatures from hurting anyone she loves, including the quirky boy Leo she's falling for...if she's willing to make a sacrifice.

With the powerful words of her songs, Arabella must fight the wave of undead and stop the necromancer who's raising them...or it won't just be her home that falls into a pit of ghosts.

A mystery you want to uncover

This story has a building mystery to it that I wanted more of. I was very intrigued by Arabella's previous troubles that seems to plague her but not stop her from seeking out more. Her mission to seek out freedom and learn more of the world drew me into the story but the added magical world lying just on the edge held me close.
I will be jumping in to the next book as soon as I can.
The narrator did a fantastic job bringing this story to life. I only dropped it to4 stars because I personally prefer to have different voices for multi-POV stories.

Daughter of the Song

This is a wonderful audiobook. The characters Arabella and Leo really held my interest during the entire story. I thought the story was well thought out and moved at a wonderful pace. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

An interesting story of magic and demons

Overall, this was an interesting story. It’s a bit slow on the world building, and the story seems to take a while to get to what seems to be where it needs to be. Arabella was abducted by occultists, and after her escape, her family decided to move away for a while to get away from all the bad memories and help her heal. Of course, they end up in a home that is on the outskirts of mines that are possessed by demons well one in particular, thanks to the home’s previous owner. Leo is a young man from the village, his father works in the mines, and many years ago he was actually saved by the demon in the mine - a bizarre friendship of sorts developed, which devolves into the demon manipulating him to get what he wants. Arabella’s magic (through her song) doesn’t even appear until well past the half way point of the book, and it’s almost a side point, as much of the story revolves around the demon, and what he’ll do to get out the mines he trapped in, which includes triggering a tragedy in Leo’s life that forces him to make a very difficult and desperate decision that turns out very badly for pretty much everyone.

Arabella and Leo have a sweet, tentative relationship. She’s guarded, and he’s ultimately distracted by the demon and his misdeeds, but they develop strong enough feelings for each other that when everything comes to light, it becomes difficult for either of them to make a clear, easy decision. The book ends at a point that essentially puts you on a path of a much larger, and I anticipate darker, story that is to come.

Audiobook review: the narration is very well done - she even actually sings a couple times, and she has a beautiful voice, it adds to the feel of the story nicely.

Great Listen

Book 1 in the Unholy Magic Saga

Kidnapping...Sacrificed by a Cult...Magic...Demon...Spells...Necromancy...Zombies...Lost Souls...
Secret Love...Betrayal

What if you held the power of life and death? Could you overlook past scars? Being forced to make desperate decisions while facing impossible odds to heal your broken self.

This book has well-developed characters who face trial and growth throughout the book. The world is clearly described for the reader to delve into this storyline.

"Everything I do from this moment forward I do to protect you."

"Scars don't define you."

Looking forward to book 2.

A Dark Fantasy

Eliza Tilton has written a fascinating dark fantasy about a young woman named Arabella who finds that she has magic within herself, and a young boy named Leo who has secrets of his own. I enjoyed this tale, and I recommend it to others who enjoy this genre. Olivia Ann Belfie's narration was great and added to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.
