Bones crushed, pulled-out guts, candy, and homicidal nuts! What do a brilliant child killer, a hopeful special effects artist, a duo of budding teen spree killers, a student-screwing teacher, and a mutated maniac missing his lower jaw have in common? They're all out this Halloween....

How will their paths cross? Who will be butchered? Can anyone survive this bloodbath, or are they all destined to drown in a pool of warm red? This slasher nightmare gives you a seat right beside the killer, but don't get too comfortable. There's a Scary Bastard on the loose....

SCARY BASTARD - ARON BEAUREGARD
💀
4.5/5 ⭐️ Jesus Christ… let’s get into this.
💀
First and foremost: WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!
Okay. So. Aron Beauregard is the author of Playground. He welcomed me into extreme horror/splatterpunk with open arms in that story. As fucked up as it ever got, there was always a sense of hope. The ending almost had me in sappy fucking tears! When I finished it I thought “damn, I can handle anything after this story! And that’s how I ended up with Scary Bastard. Aron brought me into the fold, and then he sent me fucking PACKING 🤣 I’m joking, Aron. I will still continue to try (TRY) to read your filthy, amazing stories. A disclaimer for anyone wanting to read this book! It truly is horribly fucked up. I cannot stress to you enough, if you haven’t read splatterpunk before… don’t start here.

For reals this time. I really want to stay away from spoilers as this is a shorter story so I will simply review it as follows. This story is beyond fucked up. In every conceivable way. It is also a PHENOMENAL telling of the worst night of Halloween you could imagine. The story grips you, hard. It water boards you with vile descriptions and yet is paced in such a way that you get just enough relief to keep going. Aron is a truly gifted writer. I don’t know how he can put together some of these descriptions and keep you hooked but he does it so damn well. This story is amazing and I am giving it 4.5 stars, not 5 because as much as I loved it… for me it was just a little bit much. It took me 2 weeks to get through the FOUR HOUR LONG audiobook 🤣 I wrote a message to Aron after getting through chapter 2 and told him that I need a break already, but the writing is amazing, the perspective of the story is exactly what I’m looking for... His response was for me to tuck in because it gets worse. He wasn’t kidding! Again, I was well aware this story was going to push my boundaries but I persevered and I’m happy I did! I also want to mention his note at the end. I really enjoyed that tidbit he gave on how this book ends as it gives the reader a sight into his mind and why he writes what he does and develops the story how he does. One could very easily read this book and hate every fiber of Aron’s being… but if they appreciate the horror genre and are able to withstand the beating this book gives them, they might actually come to understand what is REALLY going on in Aron’s mind. I’m not going to claim I think I know what he’s got brewing up there but I do feel like I understand his process a little more than before.

I truly do not believe there is an ounce of evil in Aron’s body. I think he takes the worst, most fucked up traits of humans and uses them as building blocks to create descriptive, terrible horror that is conceived not in his mind, but in the world around us. The things that happen in this book are not novel creations. I mean the descriptions are a lot to handle god damn 😮‍💨 but the acts themselves? The way the characters think and operate and do the things they do? That all comes from things humans have already done. I think what Aron does in his writing is amazing. He is brave enough to take the story too far and allows himself to channel this subject matter into a story that contains a real life lesson. Life is not fair. People can be incredibly cruel, vile, and evil. But people can also be incredible, they can be kind and loving and pure. Even at our lowest point, we can still find a way out. There truly is hope. The subject matter is horrific… but I feel like within all of that bleak darkness there is still some light to be found.

I absolutely love how this author describes things during the murders. it's not just descriptive, it's a little funny at times and also makes you think. there's nothing typical about the way people die in these books. absolutely fascinating story. looking forward to reading the second one!

disturbing visuals of the best kind.

I was not expecting how great this audible book was. More disturbing in the beginning but then made me think of an evil version of tv show Dexter. I loved partial twist at end and now hooked. I need to hear more.

amazing character development
