She’s on her last chance. When the bodies start piling up, she’ll need to save more than her job.

Martina Monroe is a single bad day away from losing it all. Stuck catching insurance fraudsters and cheating spouses due to a DUI, the despondent PI yearns to return to more fulfilling gigs. So when a prospective client asks for her by name to identify an unknown infant in a family photo, she leaps at the opportunity and travels to the one place she swore never to go: Back home.

As the pressure mounts and the temptation of booze calls like a siren, Martina digs into the mystery and discovers many of the threads have razor-sharp ends. And forced to partner with a resentful detective investigating a linked suspicious death, the haunted private eye unravels clues that delve deep into her past...and put her in a dark and dangerous corner.

Can this gritty detective unlock the truth before she’s drowned in a sea of secrets?

What She Left is the pause-resisting first book in the Martina Monroe Private Investigator Series. If you like high-stakes games, jaw-dropping twists, and embattled seekers struggling to do right, then you’ll love H.K. Christie’s thrilling search for answers.

Story line was good but the narration sounded like AI. The voice was very robotic.

This is one of those novels that shocks you and totally empathetic to the characters, I actually have an extended family member this happened to back in the 1960's, but it was the stepfather and her mother left him but also raised the child, which was her grandchild, as her child, so they grew up as sister's but in reality, they was much more. There was a lot of frustration in that relationship but they did the best they could do to keep the child in the family and love her as she grew. The truth came out on the oldest deathbed. Took a lot of therapy to fix that. Great eye opener.

I loved this book and can see it's a great 1st book in series. I loved the complexity of the characters and the character development. It all came together nicely in the end. All the clues fell into place. It left me wanting to go to the next book.

Great Female Sleuth Story!

Loved the story but gave up a little more than halfway through and just read on my Kindle. The narration put me to sleep. Her voice made the story hard to follow and after a while, I just grew tired of trying to decipher between all the charaters with the monotone voice.

Narration Made This A Long Slog
