The Expedition

By: Expedition Good Life
  • Summary

  • The Expedition is a podcast that searches the answer to the questions: what is leadership for a better world? How can you (yeah, you - listening to this podcast) contribute? In order to contribute to a better world, we need leadership that works in harmony with nature. Sounds good right? But what does this mean? How does 'leadership for a better world' work in practice? What do you do as a professional, a consultant, a manager if you want to contribute? The Expedition interviews guests from all kinds of fields: professors, nature lovers, knowledge keepers of aboriginal wisdom, managers, consultants - yet all of them have one thing in common: they can contribute to finding the answer how YOU can contribute to a better world. Our climate, safety and equality are more and more under pressure. We may feel that, but how do we change it? Where do we go, what do we do in our daily lives in order to make things 'better'? The episodes are in English or in Dutch, depending on the guest. This search is hosted by Daan van Lith, founder of ExpeditionGoodLife.org.

  • Bonus: Dennis Kiley - concepts from nature, applicable in our daily lives
    Sep 17 2022

This bonus episode focusses on all that we can learn from nature: concepts that we find in nature and are applicable to both our own lives and the leadership challenges we face in our business.

The concepts covered in this podcast:

To unleash our inner wildness we need to know ourselves and connect with the world around us. In this, we are helped by nature: if the land does well, we are well.

Restorative & regenerative abilities of nature and us. We will go through stress and difficulty, it’s unavoidable. But how we come back from that determines how resilient we are. We need to learn to let things be to let them regenerate, eventually that will lead to better results.

Seasonal thinking - there’s a logical flow of energy in nature. The more we follow the flow of nature throughout the year, our lives and in our companies the easier it becomes.

Both and - two things can be true simultaneously (for instance co-operation and competition); it happens in nature all the time and it could be true in our lives as well…if we allow for it.

Wholeness & diversity - embracing the totality of things and ourselves. If we allow all voices in our organizations to be heard, we become stronger and more flexible - but how do we do that? How do we deal with the messiness that comes with it?

(The threshold for) Discomfort - it helps us in learning, but we have natural way of avoiding it. We can grow our muscles for discomfort, though, and thereby become better versions of ourselves.

There is no single truth - that’s a thought that helps us to be kind to ourselves and build the confidence we need to stand tall within ourselves.

Larger than self - we are a part of everything around us: everything that was, that is right now and that will be. Knowing that, hopefully, will move you to treat nature with the respect it deserves.

Self-love is the first and most essential building block for all of us if we want to contribute to a better world.

  • Jonas Helmikstøl - a business culture of love to shape the future of electricity
    Jul 21 2022

In this conversation with the Chief Caretaker / CEO of EASEE, we talk about:

    • what Jonas believes the 'right' business culture is
    • how unbelievably difficult and painful it is to make that real in the company, even though he is 'the boss'
    • how to talk to investors about love
    • how to weigh 'being the boss' and 'freedom' while steering the company in the right direction
    • what if the whole idea of leading with love fails? And will companies that don't do that, be succesful?
    • why staying true to what you believe in is important, and how this cliche actually works in practice

  • Raymond Aendekerk - combining positively grounded gardening, politics, protests and much more for a better world
    Jun 2 2022

When working on a better world guided by nature, we tend to make the challenge very and overwhelming for ourselves. Here's an episode that you can use to learn how you can make your actions count. To approach that, we zoom out and reflect on the status of Luxemburg as a country. It's a small, green and lush country - yet it's overshoot day is on February 14th. Learn on all the effort Raymond is undertaking to push that date back. He's involved with law makers, farmers, protesters, bees and gardens in order to make that happen.
