Eugene law student and intern at a local law firm, Haddie discovers more about herself and her dad than she was ready to delve into. Shocked by gruesome deaths that defy the laws of nature, she searches for rational answers to otherworldly incinerations. To learn the truth, she investigates the two bizarre deaths of a local businessman and his wife.

Haddie races against time, obsessed with saving the firm's client, the businessman's mistress, who the police accuse of impossible murders that the young woman couldn't have committed.

However, if Haddie digs too deep, she, and her friends, might become the next set of ghastly remains. Unfortunately, Haddie has a history of not knowing when to let go.

What are they?

This story started out slow. If a friend hadn’t warned of that fact I probably would have given up. I’ve had a hard time getting immersed into a story lately. But it finally picked up and then it flew. By the end I was completely hooked. As for the main character she seemed a bit scatterbrained. Smart but not great with sticking to others priorities. Overall she’s likable and very passionate about helping others.

Good story

I liked this origin story. In fact read it after getting 3 chapters into first book. Explain what I was wanting to know. Go pace and action. Liked the narrator also.

Dangerous Forces

I’ll be honest this is not my typical read. It has way more graphic violence than I like. There are lots of threads to unravel as you read the story. But this story is well written and there is plenty of action. If dark paranormal mysteries is your jam you will love this book. #CMCon25

Unique urban fantasy

I really liked the main character and found the magic unique and not the same old thing. Lots of mystery and I couldn’t stop listening.

Wow!

Shattered Blood is not my normal type of book to read but the author will be attending Coastal Magic Convention in Daytona Beach in February 2025 so I wanted to try one of his books. I’ll admit that this started out pretty slow for me but boy when it picked up it didn’t let go.

I was on the edge of my seat for about the last half of this story as Haddie and her father fought against the bad guys and tried to keep themselves from getting into trouble. This book is the origin story for the AngelSong series and ends a bit abruptly but not really what I would call a cliffhanger. I’m intrigued enough by this story that I wouldn’t mind reading more.

I listened to the audiobook performed by Christine Mascott. AFAIK I haven’t listened to any other ones that she’s done (narrators often have multiple names just like authors) and I think she did a great job with this story. She did very good male voices – not all female narrators can – and I was able to distinguish all of the characters. I would definitely listen to more audiobooks performed by her.
