Dick Canidy and the agents of the OSS scour war torn Poland looking for a rocket scientist who holds the secrets to the Nazis most dangerous weapon in this entry in W.E.B. Griffin's New York Times bestselling Men at War series.

April 1940. By terms of the Soviet Nazi Nonaggression pact, the two dictatorships divided the helpless nation of Poland. Now, the Russians are rounding up enemies of the state in their occupation zone, but one essential target slips away. Dr. Sebastian Kapsky had spent years working with Walter Riedel and Werner von Braun in the early days of rocket science, but as a man with a conscience he refused to continue when he saw the perversion of their work by the Nazis. That makes him the most knowledgeable person about German superweapons outside of Germany.

The Germans want him. The Soviets are desperate to grab him, but Wild Bill Donovan knows there's only one man who can find him in the middle of a war zone and get him out—Dick Canidy.

I did enjoy this book, but it is obvious this was written by someone other than Mr. Butterworth(yes I know he has passed away) but some of the difference is perfectly fine, and other parts that glare out to me are, timeline issues in general and then timeline issues with the rest of the series, specifically timeline issues with Dick Canidy and Eric Fulmar.

Now I know there are from time to time inconsistencies with book to book in series, and I understand this, but there is some serious flaws of the timeline.

Granted this review is a few weeks after reading it so I may not be dead on, but I recall the timeline for Canidy being back in the US for a mission for Col. Donovan is too soon for his having served with the AVG in China, as they really were not active until after Dec. 7 and involving Eric Fulmar as soon as they did in the timeline in this book is flatly wrong from the other books as he is resisting being used by the US for a while at least until around the time of Operation Torch.

these are just a couple things that stood out to me.

All in all it was still a very good book, as it takes a lot to write to W.E.B. Griffins level, at least for me and my reading enjoyment. But he was the second or third author I found a love for in my teenage years.

Good Book, but not quite to Mr. Griffins level

Certainly not up to W.E.B’s standards. I would think the abridged version would be better. The narrator has a very good voice but he just didn’t work for me. I’ll have to think real hard to listen to any more Griffin books written by Mr. Kirsanow.

So so

Great book. Change the character names and the title, take Griffin’s name off it and you have one hell of a standalone book. But, they didn’t do that. You expect timelines to match and characters to be consistent and they aren’t. Like I said, great standalone but not up to Griffins standards.

Obviously not Griffin
