  • I Ran The NYC Marathon!!!
    Nov 14 2023

“My knees began to smart and I started to feel “something” in my right hip-flexor–something that reminded me of those cartoons where Elmer Fudd tries to drive a car that literally falls apart with the wheels rolling away and the engine banging out with a “poof.”

Joanne recaps her awesome NYC Marathon experience, complete with the weekend nutrition that fueled her race: boiled potatoes, NYC bagels, pizza, ramyeon, and her favorite NYC restaurant. Plus, a nightmarish parting thought…

  • The Power of Words.
    Oct 24 2023

"As my brother learned the hard way when he once used the word 'negligee' instead of 'negligent,' it's probably a good idea to know exactly what a word means before you use it."

In this week’s episode, Joanne takes a deep dive into the meaning and etymology of words that might require some clarity, at least as they relate to the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East.

She's relatable in an unimaginable way

She's relatable. To know that she can explain all her pain out into the world despite it being hard to say is inspiring to me since I know I struggle with that. I would say that I've struggled with people throughout my childhood in many ways other than once, and since I was so young for when it all had happened I sometimes question what don't I know because as you get older you forget more and more. Or, maybe it's trama response just to simply forget. A really memorable moment of mine that made me want to change everything was in middle school. I've never experienced bullying quite like that, and I never hope to ever again. But, to know that it is very much possible to feel like the entire world hates you; to make you feel like you don't belong made me want to show them all wrong by doing it all for myself. Proving to them that I'm done people pleasing for there own selfish needs and to let them know that the worst kind of rejection you could ever have from a person is when one is putting you in your place for not knowing better.

I know all 5 stars is a big rating

I know logically nothing is perfect and not even this is perfect. BUT, the narration is smooth but not slow for the rhythm of the story. She clearly answers questions 1 by one, easy and comprehensive for all audiences. No gatekeepers in language. It's also light even tho it can get deep and vulnerable when talking of her own life. She makes me feel like someone who really cares about me is sharing with me. And that helps the delivery of everything else that much sweeter and more meaningful. Give her cookbook audio a try too, it's filled with stories that correlate with what her culture and life means to her. All so incredibly relatable and educational for expirences exclusive to her life.
